Mac needs a bypass

We went to the doctor's to get the results of the scan taken on his legs. His left femoral artery is totally blocked necessitating the by pass surgery. Of course after dragging his butt all over Vegas and complaing about his having to sit and rest every ten feet I feel like a heel. Would you believe Mac thought this was going to be same day surgery? When I told him he would have to stay all he was worried about was eating hospital food. The man is incredible! I guess I won't be entering him in any marathons in the near future...darn.

We set a moving date in August but now everything depends on this surgery, the man will do anything to get out of moving:) Mac has no problem with the move he just doesn't want to move any furniture. He be happy as a clam if we just brought the bed, his chair, the tv and milk crates... the rest can be left here.

Welcome to all the newbies, prayers to all who need them. Hope our Tx. gals stay dry and hurrican free. Hugs to all, Bernie

Oh Bernie, so sorry to hear about Mac! That's really a drastic way to get out of moving! On the positive side, my mom had that same surgery and it went fine. It's not a simple procedure, he'll be laid up for a while, but it's worth it to restore the circulation. Mom's lasted till the day she died, ironically it was the other leg that she lost. Tell Mac it'll be ok once the pain and swelling go away.

Hang in there, girl. Will be thinking of both of you!

Hugs, Pam

Well, that explains his legs hurting and having to get more comfortable shoes. He was quite a trooper, wasn't he?!?!! Hospital food is usually pretty good, he shouldn't worry about that. Let us know more when you have details. Hugs, Gabby

Bernie, I'm sorry that Mac needs surgery but he will probably feel so much better afterwards. Who knows, he may even WANT to move furniture then!

Hospital food is a lot better than it used to be. In our hospital, they feed the staff the same thing the patients get and sometimes it's even good!

Good luck and take care.

Kat, normally I would shun the idea of any invasive surgery of any type but after reading the test results myself I must agree. Once the circulation is restored he should feel so much better. As far as his eating habits go he will not eat their food no matter who good it is. The only thing Mac eats is any kind of meat and will only eat it with Franco American beef or home made gravy. The only vegetables he eats are onions, carrots, boiled cabbage, potatoes, tomatoes, canned French style string beans, corn and iceberg lettuce. Believe you me cooking for him is a real challenge. Mac loves fish but will only eat it breaded and fried and usually eats the frozen packaged garbage. Remember, this is the man who considers McDonald's fine dining:) At least pre and post surgery I will give him a homeopathic cocktail that will lessen the trauma caused by surgery and help shorten the recovery time tremendeously. Take care. Hugs, Bernie

Hi Pam, Mac wants to know how long your mom was laid up after surgery. I told him it is different for everyone but he still wants to know. I plan on giving him some homeopathic remedies known as Trauma Remedies that help with speeding up recovery time. Trust me the stuff works great:) At least once he's back on his feet he will no longer have any excuse for not walking with me. In a way this is a mixed blessing...it has renewed my determination to get back into top physical condition and it has made mac finally realise that he should too. Ding, ding ding...wake up call:)

This morning when I was making coffee I began thinking of the possibility of losing him and man did the tears flow. This is the only time I will let that happen because from now on I am thinking positively and looking forward to having a long life with him. If I lost him who would I have to nag? I need to make someone's life difficult:) Take care and talk to you soon. Hugs, Bernie

Actually he needed to get comfortable shoes because he didn't listen to me and break in his new sneakers before the trip. His constant need to find a seat to rest was from the blockage. Hopefully this will be a wake up call for him.

Hope your surgery goes well and remember to take the Arnica after surgery as it will definitely help lessen the swelling and bruising. You might also want to take Rescue Remedy post surgery as it will lessen the trauma to the body and speed healing. Hugs, Bernie
