Thought I'd start with a poll on a book you've read that really "changed your life". Lots of great ones out there, but for me it has to be "Self Matters" by Dr. Phil McGraw!!!. When I started the book I was doubtful, but as I flipped each page it was like an "awakening". I couldn't put it down and it was so great to read a book that read just like he talks. By the time I was finished I knew exactly why I did the things I did, and learned the true meaning of being one's "authentic self". So I'd be interested to hear from anyone else whose had a "life altering" experience from a book they've read. So put your thinking caps on ladies...hope to hear from you,

Hugs,

Barb

Gee Barb this is tough... I will have to think a lot on that. I am not too sure I have yet read that life altering book for me.

When I was in my early teens I read a book called "Jonathan Livingston Seagull"(and I still have it after all these years). It was about a seagull that never went along with the flock instead it flew off to reach new heights. I knew at an early age I was different from other people so I really identified with Jonathan. This book showed me we all don't have to follow the same path. As a matter of fact the moral of the book was take a path in life which makes you happy and the heck with the rest of the flock who do not want to change into being better then what they were a day ago.

HI Barb

I can't name one book that has changed my life. I have read Dr.Phill book that you mention. Books to me are something I learn from and also just enjoy. Reading is a real passion of mine.

The first book would be my 5th grade social studies book that showed me that other countries are in our world with different cultures. It made me aware of Europe and the rest of the world and gave me a hunger to visit those places. The second was when I read a book about Georgia O'Keefe a few years ago and it let me give myself a break. She only painted while she was in New Mexico. The rest of the year she did not paint. Knowing that simple fact made me feel like I could do things even if I didn't like to do them all of the time. I write stories but I don't write much in the summer. I seem to write more when it is colder and there is less gardening and other outside activities to pull me away from my writing. I read lots of books and I think that many of them give me insight, but this was the first that taught me that it was okay to give myself permission and that I can go with my natural rhythms rather than fight them and still be a productive person.
