Me? Menopause?

Hi Everyone: I am new to these boards. I came to IVillage seeking information about menopause. The symptoms started a year or so ago, and are now getting stronger. I just wanted to ask about them so that I could assure myself that I am not going crazy (even though some days that is exactly how I feel). The hot flashes are no worse, but I am noticing increased problems sleeping, mood swings, crying, trouble concentrating...does this sound familiar to anyone? I am nearly 46 years old and had a hysterectomy when I was 34, but still have my ovaries. I am in good health otherwise. Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

Hi Sue and welcome to our board. Sounds like good ole menopause to me and actually could just be peri-menopause but you definately have the sypmptoms. You are not going crazy just getting to be past those child bearing years. I am Mary and 53 been in menopause since I was 50. Check with your Dr though to be sure.

Hugs

Mary

Welcome to the board! Oh yes, it sounds very familiar. I have been in menoapause for 3-4 years now, my worst year being when I was 49. That was when I went to my doctor and said, "fix me, please"....LOL. I went on some HRT and some Celexa, a mild anti-depressant. Recently I have been weening myself off the HRT, since it's been 3 years. I'm doing well now just on the Celexa and herbs (black cohosh, Soy and evening primrose oil). That's what works for me. First step is having a good gynocologist to talk to, I prefer a female. Good luck, Gabby

Welcome Sue! Well I too think it sounds like Menopause, but you may want to check with your dr to be sure. Lots of fun stuff goes with menopause.. I find the forgetfulness is one of my worst things... and then the nightsweats oh what a joy they can be. I try to think of it as a temporary thing, and not to worry too much about all the symptoms I am having.. but of course hearing from the others here that it is normal helps a lot.

Glad to see you dropped in it can be a pretty scary thing!

Welcome Sue. Boy does that ever sound familiar. I have been on HRT for about 3 months now. The hot flashes and night sweats have stopped. thank God. They were unbearable. The meds do not seem to do anything for the mood swings though. I can cry at the drop of a hat for no reason. See doc. soon to talk about this. I also have a problem concentrating and memory. I just turned 51 this week, symptoms have only been bad for the last year. Talk to your doctor and see what he/she can do. We should not have to live like this without help. So does anyone know how long this lasts?

Welcome to the board.

Yup, you're completely normal! LOL! Sounds like your ovaries have finally stopped working and now the hormone levels have dropped off. I went through the same thing, and when I got sick and tired of the mood swings and crying jags, I went on Hrt. It helped tremendously! Wish you luck as you go through this stage of life!

Hugs and a cold shower, Pam

Hi Sue and welcome. Yes it sounds like you are inmenopause but get a blood test from your gyno. to make sure. I am a Homeopath and was beginning to suffer terribley from hot flashes and night sweats, mood swings. For the hot flashes I took Sulphur 200C potency once and they never returned. For the mood swings you could try Sepia 1M potency once monthly and that should take care of mood swings. Hope this helps, Bernadette, DIH. The DIH denotes Dilpoma in Homeoapathy. On the board I am just know as Bernie

Thanks to you all. I truly do appreciate the information and support. I did check with my doctor. I am not going on hormones right now. I am going to try a few other things first. Thanks, again! To know you are all out there and we are rooting for each other is wonderful. Sue
