from my blood tests. I do have diabetes. The good news is that Bill is working with me on what we eat and the daily walks I'm supposed to take. My wake up call slapped me in the face ( or maybe it kicked me in the butt) and I am now ready to eat better and excersise more. I have to go to a couple of classes that explain everything and teach me how to check my blood sugar daily. Of course my colorestoral is too high, (Char, I'm there with you now), but loosing weight should bring that down. We are starting out with diet, then in 2 months when I go back, if it isn't better, I start taking meds for both. HELP, I'm not very confident right now that I can do this. After all, I have tried many times before to loose weight and all I have been doing since I was pregnant with my first child is put the weight on, off, on, off, on, on and on. Can you beleave that when I got married at 18, I weighed 108 lbs.

On another note, a couple of weeks ago I got out all my clothes of smaller sizes that I was saving for the time I would wear then again (ha ha)and gave them away. I filled 8 grocery bags. Now you really know how much I'm a pack rat.

Well, yesterday was spent working in the gardens, my cottoneaster got a hair cut. We finished the patch of front yard in the shade where grass doesn't grow. We put down a large pea gravel. Did that last week. We call it pebble beach. We went to get some stepping stones and a couple of little cridders. It turned out alright.

Today I started painting my new sewing room. I'm starting with the closit. Oh yeah, I bought a second sewing machine. A light weight for all the carrying around I do of my machine. This way I can set my big one up and never take it off the table, so to speak. Bill is making me shelves for my stache of material. It'll be a while before I tackle the stripping & staining of the day bed I got for in there. It's coming ritht along.

Welcome newbies. I'm the list lady so do give me your vitals for them. Love and prayers for those who need them. Love and BIG HUGS for all. ..Free

I am sorry Free, I know it is not what you wanted to hear. Any lifestyle changes are difficult. It's great that your DH is there for support. Of course we are always here too. You can do this. I have no doubt. Just one day at a time.

Good Luck

Free, don't despair. Sounds to me as if you are heading in the right direction in controlling the diabetes. You have good support and a good spirit!

I used to do admin support for a diabetes class instructor at the health dept. I saw so many frightened folks come through and after the class they were so much better because they were informed! So, I'm glad to hear you're set up to go to a class.

We're all here for you, and we love ya, too!

Hugs,

Red

Hi Mary-sorry for the news but it's not all bad. As you said it's a wake up call and now it's time to take care of YOU!! I'm there for you girlfriend. I saw that diet and exercise worked for my FIL and he got off his meds. I know you can do this. Just start slow and think of it as a journey to health not depressing news. Maybe I should start our exercise log again!!! Take care ((HUGS)) Becky

Mary, I'm sorry to hear your news, but you are right that it is a needed wake up call. Also, you are definitely on the right track. Are you saying that with diet and exercise you might not have to take any med? That would be great. I too hate dieting, but it's important to eat right - no matter what is going on. It will be a challenge, but not all bad. You can learn to be creative in making low fat/sugar foods. There is a lot of help out there too in different cookbooks.Be good to yourself. Many hugs, Janet

Free, RUN out right now and buy a copy of the magazine Light & Tasty! It's put out by the people who do Taste of Home but it is for those of us who are trying to either watch their weight, lower cholesterol , or are diabetic! That magazine has tons of REAL food that actually looks AND tastes great! Hey, the way I look at it, we might have to change our eating habits but we still can eat GREAT! EVERY recipe has the complete nutritional breakdown AND the diabetic exchanges listed, a great help!

Hang in there! I know it's kind of the pits to find out we HAVE to change our habits, but at least you are in the know and can start working on this. And it sounds like you have a great helper in Bill, and that counts for a LOT!

Right now I am trying to get back on track, seems like I sort of slipped off the edge of my food plan this summer, so durn easy to do! But I need to get into the groove again as I have to have another cholesterol test done in October!

Good luck girlfriend!

Free you CAN do this. Just take it one step at a time and before you know it you will get there. There may be days when you slip up and that's normal. Get back on track and these days will get fewer and fewer. I have so much faith in you and know you can do this. WE are all here for you. Love, Bernie
Hugs, Bernie
