the car for taking S16 to Tempe & checking him into his dorm room at ASU tomorrow. His roomie flies in from Pennsylvania & checks in Thursday so we get tomorrow to settle him in pretty well first. Will spend the next couple days running around to some of the orientation programs for us parents while S16 does his orientation stuff & there are a couple events scheduled for everyone together. The new year convocation is Friday morning & the Honors College Welcome Assembly is Saturday morning - classes start Monday morning. The plan is to visit w/an Uncle in Sun City Friday nite, go back to the Sat.AM assembly & be home by Saturday evening - leaving S16 to begin his university life. If I didn't have to worry about S13 at home alone, I think I'd take myself to the Toby Keith concert in Phoenix Saturday nite - I just may anyway. We'll see how the rest of the week goes tho I'm not really up to a 4 hr drive in the wee hours & I'll already be hoteling it a few nites. Of course if the gas situation is as bad as I keep reading about - I could end up stranded there anyhooo waiting for the next truckloads to come in.

It'll be a nice break, tho kinda hard to actually leave him there on his own when I come home. Then it'll be back to school for me starting Tuesday nite & a couple more trips up to Las Vegas working on the packing up of MIL's house. It's been so hot - the last several trips it's been 105 outside there, the house has no air & has been locked up since April. It's hard to do much more than 3-4 hours work at a time - then it's w/a frozen towel hanging over my head & draped around the neck.

Sorry haven't been around much lately, been busy getting things packed up & ready to go both for S16 & MIL's house before the crunch sets in w/my classes starting already. S13 started HS Monday & I can feel the grey hairs popping out as we deal w/his Really Hateful attitudes about Having to Go, yadayada - it's gonna be a long 4 yrs for this one!!! Haven't even touched base w/D27 to see how her 2nd visit w/her OB went - they weren't too happy w/his lack of information the 1st time around.

Have a good week all & welcome to the newbies also...

Hi Jo

Wow you sure are a busy lady. I cannot understand how you can work at your mil's in the heat any amount of time. Good luck getting ds16 settled. We have not been to Phoenix since the gas crunch up there but bil and sil say it is horrible. So get your gas before you get to the city and after you leave if you can.

Safe driving my friend

Hugs

Mary

Jo it seems that you have so very little time to even breathe, we can see why you have had a hard time getting here to post! I hope that you will get a chance to slow down some soon!!

So I bet your ds is excited about going to university now, I am sure he will do great there!

Have a safe trip!

Hugs, Lor

Jo, you are one very busy lady! But I can't imagine turning my 17 yr old loose on a college campus. It's not time yet!!! How did you get through that without crocodile tears?? He must be an exceptional young man to be starting so young. Good for you, you and your dh must have done lots of things right!

Sounds like life is about to get even crazier for you. Hang in there!!

Hugs, Pam

I'm back, 16S is in & relatively settled for a start - seems to have a nice roomie. Maybe the gas situation has eased up some (or ASU made a deal w/someone w/so many thousands of people coming in this week from all over the country) - but I got gas at the Tonopah freeway station (about an hour out of town) on the way in Wednesday to cover me til I got back out of town today. No lines, no problem & "only" $2.19/gal". I did see a few closed stations around the areas of Tempe we were in, but the ones I saw that were open didn't have any kind of horrendous lines, & all were in the $2.19 range (for unleaded) tho people were talking about having gone out at 3am to make sure they got what they'd need.

Hope it gets better before we go back - tho DH will go down his next long layover early next week as DS may have fried his printer.

I'm back safe & sound. DS seems to be settling in & excited about the whole thing - but I did get a real hug & there was a bit of "teary-eyed-ness" from us both when I left this afternoon - but we did good & I think he'll do good.

Wow Jo,

You are one busy lady. Not sure how I would feel leaving my child at the school. At his age kind of scary to me but thats momitis. LOL

If you can see Toby Keith, I would...he has a great show.

Take care,

Rain

Thanx Pam. Yes, we are one set of pretty proud parents, but don't take a lot of credit for his accomplishments - he just happens to be the one out of our 5 that has hit "the right" combination of attitude to go w/his particular brand of aptitude while he's been doing his growing up rather than waiting til after the growing-up's pretty well accomplished to figure it out. We did manage w/o crocodile tears, but I got my first real hug from him since he was a little boy when I left & he got a bit teary-eyed which of course made me get a bit teary-eyed, but we did good. He is mostly excited about what's ahead & there's lots of support in place w/the more tight-knit family type atmosphere of the smaller Honors college, the dorm staff & resources, & the kids themselves. So far they have gone out of their way to make the transition pretty smooth & relatively painless & classes begin Monday morning & they're all suddenly into the serious business of learning...

We'll be taking this one a week at a time til we all get used to it I'm sure...I'll miss having him at home under my wing.

I definitely have Momitis yes! - but I'm excited for him at the same time. We'll be taking this a week at a time I'm sure & I'll be much more conscious of what's up w/him than I've been w/any of the older kids as they've left the nest - but then they were older &/or went thru the more typical methods of driving me to the point of agreeing wholeheartedly "Yes, it's definitely time!! You need to be out there doing this on your own"!! Probably unfortunately for him, this time I've only got unruly 13yo brother left at home to distract me - along w/the rest of my slightly busy life.

Because DH had to run off to work again about the time I could get home - I decided against the concert & made it home. I'll wait til I get to go to the James Taylor concert in October w/D27.

Wow, Jo, my head is spinning, reading about all you have going on! Try to get some time for yourself before your classes start!

Jo, you have so much happening all the time. But isn't it nice to get one settled in at college. And he will probably have a great time there. Good luck with the other one. Four years sounds like a long time...well, under certain circumstances it IS a long time, LOL...but he may actually improve after a while.

Take care.
