Well, I'm back from my mini-vacation, going along with dh on his business trip to Iowa. We stayed in Pella (yes, it's the home of the window company), a lovely Dutch community. It's in the middle of nowhere, small town, rural and friendly as can be! They also have the smallest Wal-Mart I've ever seen! Quite a few antique stores, craft and gift shops that were wonderful to wander through. The chocolate shops and bakeries were out of this world! Sooooooo good! They have a regular town get-together that's called "Thursday Night", with the local restaurants bringing big grills to the town square and the whole town turns out. Local schools, service orgs., churches, etc. provide entertainment, rotating through various themes. Sorry to say, we'll miss the "town water fight", as that's next Thursday. Teams were signing up for it, and it sure sounds like fun. Ah, small towns are just lovely.

Now, it's back to reality. No maid service at home! LOL

Sounds like you enjoyed your trip! I think small towns are fun to visit but don't think I could live in one...everyone knows everyone's business...lol

Lovely, Jan, sounds like the little German

towns I used to go to when I lived there.

Everything was centered around the "platz".

Glad you had a great time!!

hugs,

cindy

Welcome back Jan,

Small towns are fun. Where I live now is a tad bigger then population 357 where I came here from. Still small town qualities though. Come on up and vist some of our cemetaries and listen to concert in the park sometime. I think you would like it.

Sorry, no maid service though. LOL Glad you have a good time in Pella.

Hugs,

Rain

A town water fight...that sounds great! When we had our first Japanese exchange student, all the kids in the neighborhood got into a water fight one evening. It ranged over the whole neighborhood and everyone got soaked. I think it was the high point of her stay in the United States!

Hi Jan! That sounds like a lovely town! No wonder you had such a nice week! The "Thursday Nights" sound like a really cool idea, what a good way to get to know everyone in town.

Glad things are going well for your dh in the new job! A little less stress for you too, my friend.

Hugs, Pam
