Bernie ask me to post this update for her via email to me....

Lei, Julia had her surgery on December 14th. I arrived at the hospital about 20 minutes after she left recovery and let me tell you you never want to see your child looking like that. Needles and tubes coming out from everywhere! You know since you've gone through so much. I've seen it with relatives but this was my child and seeing it made my heart bleed! After watching her viatals for a while and seeing she was remaining stable I suggested to my son and daughter's friend that we go to the cafeteria for lunch and let her sleep.

At the lunch table I asked if anyone had called  friends and family which they started doing. It got to be a game...Jt would call someone then Jerry would call the same person. JT, my son, had just gotten off the phone with his sister then Jerry called her and got a machine. All I heard was...OK, you must be screening your calls. Julia's high on drugs but promised to share them with us later tonight. The labotomy was a success. Then Jerry asked JT if he had spoken to Lisa...yes. Hmmm. I got a machine. JT asked what number he called. It was the wrong number! I told Jerry...someone in South Jersey just got a message about Julia being whacked out on drugs but will share and had a labotomy! Once the realization hit we howled! I nearly peed myself I laughed so hard!

Jt and I went back to her room and she told us her boss just left for the caf. to look for us...back down I went. I found Reno and told him about the phone call...he laughed too:) Reno is a lawyer but is a really cool guy and considers my daughter a part of his family...he even calls me mom:)

Long story short in the past three weeks she's lost 30 lbs! She's not thrilled with the pureed foods but that is only for another week until she can start adding small portions of regular food. Her stomach needed time to heal. The one thing she questioned the surgeon about was the pain. She said he never told her how sever it would be. He told her...if I told patients how painful the operation was they wouldn't have it. The paincaused her to ask me to help her with some things she considered embarassing. Nothing embarasses a mom. We care for our children no matter what it is.

My daughter has always made me proud. She's a loving, caring person, musically gifted, bright, just an all round great person and if she needed to have this surgery to prove to herself what I already know then I support her. Its been rough going but each day it gets better and the weight is falling off. This is a lifelong commitment, she made it and my hat is off to her. Thanks so much for your positve vibes, They really helped. I tried getting on the board but my computer is screwed up again s if you could post this for me I'd appreciate it.

Love, Bern

Hi Lei

Thanks for posting this for Bernie. I am glad her Dd surgery was a success and that she is doing well. Bernie you are a great Mom and I hope that computer will soon get to working right again. iVillage has been slow for me lately and that is unusual for me.

It's awfully scary to see your child looking that way. I'm glad that all went well, and they are keeping a sense of humor around them.
