It was Super Bowl Sunday and after starting laundry I checked the tube to see what was on. Nothing interested me so I decided to play some computer games until wash was done. Not two minutes later I heard what I thought was an explosion! I ran to see what had happened and found my front wall on the living room floor! I started screaming OMG over and over as I ran in panic stricken circles. I looked out one of the windows to see a car sitting where once was my front wall. After calling the police and rescue, since I didn't know the condition of the driver, I ran around the house to see the full damage. All I could do was stand there cyring hysterically. My neighbors, even Mr Miserable next door, came and hugged me trying to calm me down.
the entire fire department came as did the police, the local tv station and photographers from our local paper, License & Inspection from the city came to make sure the house wasn't in eminent danger of collapse. the firemen checked the house and noticing how hysterical I was asked if I had called anyone to come stay with me...Yes, Mac, JT, Kelsey and Julia came. Janet stopped by for a few minutes then left as she had to meet some friends, they were going to a bar...nice of her huh?
It seems the driver was trying to park and hit the gas instead of the brake. L&I said my marble front step was the only thing that stopped him from coming completely into the house. At least he said the house did not have to be condemned. The driver felt aweful. We have a mutual friend and the friend was trying to comfort me as well. I told the driver he not only damaged my house but closed my business which is my livelyhood!
Since it was Sunday I tried contacting the daycare parents so they could make arrangements but my hands were shaking so badly JT and a neighbor made the calls. Those who were home came down immediately to see if they could help. Just being there was enough.
My neighbors were so wonderful. Not only did they offer support but once the car was removed one pulled his pick up out front, everyone grabbed shovels and started shoveling the wall out of my living room. Even Bob who's dying from cancer grabbed a shovel until I screamed at him. Other neighbors framed out the wall and boarded it up. Within two hours the house was secured.
Daycare was closed last week so I could deal with insurance cos, Ins. adjuster and contractor. I decided I will open a scaled down version of the daycare at my other house until repairs are completed.
The one thing that keeps playing over in my mind is had it been a week day Connor would have been napping in the exact spot the car crashed into and would have been killed! No child will ever sleep near a wall again!
Everyone has been so wonderful, except for Janet, sailor son's gf. You will not believe what she told me. She said since she only works for me until 1PM each day she will leave until the kids go home so they won't stress her out. What?! Even Mac offered to help with the kids. He'll probably have them watching Jerry Springer when my back is turned:) If one of those kids starts yelling out "Sit down Wh*re" I'll kill him! I've always hated Super Bowl Sunday but now I REALLY hate it!
If you have a spare prayer floating around I sure could use it and I'll keep you posted.

Man oh Man, Bernie! What next?? I cannot believe it! I am SO glad no children were there. That would have been such a tragedy!
I don't think I could have held my tongue with that Janet! Good grief! I think I would have said, "There's the door! Don't let the screen door hit ya on the way out! Don't call me, I'll call you....etc."
What is the status as of now? Will your daycare house be repaired very soon? Or will it be months?
Ps & PTs going out to you,
Red
Thanks Red. I'm still in the "getting estimates" stage and am thinking of not using the contractor I've known all my life as he refuses to give me a copy of his. Plus he wants to star bolt my front wall! Not happening. If you plan on repairing the wall do it correctly with no short cuts.
In the short time I've been living back home Janet has asked me to get up later as my clunking around disturbs her. Ah, chick, my getting up early helps keep your workload down to sitting on your arse watching tv with the kids while I work
Mare I left and stayed at the daycare and I can tell you with wind chills below zero it was COLD! Who'd of thunk that you could fog your glasses trying to warm up your hands in your own dinning room? My bedroom, which is normally cold, felt like Hawaii!
Don't worry Sis because when she got up I told her she would have to deal with my clunking around since I never plan on spending another freezing night like that again. You would not believe what her response was? Evidently she told Ralph about it and he said ...she will probably blame you for it...duh! She was the one who complained! Then she said JT & Kelsey compalin about it too. Kelsey and JT are out the door by 6:30 and when questioned were totally clueless. I'm finding lying is normal for her. First she tells me she dropped out of school in 10th grade, she told JT 9th, and Ralph 11th. then she told me her step-father molested her and just recently told me it was her father. I could go on and on. I can understand fudging the truth when we first met but she's lying about Mac, Jt & Kelsey and its getting way out of hand. I'm thinking of emailing Ralph and suggesting he either talk to her or find other lodgings for her. She seems to forget I gave up my room, bed and home to accomadate her. Guess what? I'm back:)
