Baby grandson in hospital tonight

Our youngest dgs, Paxton, 6 weeks old now, is in hospital tonight. My DIL took him early this afternoon at my insistence. He's had the flu for a couple of days. My concern, after talking and asking questions, was that he may be dehydrated. They ran blood tests while giving him IV fluids. At first, they told her she'd be going home with him. Then, they came back in to let her know that they had some concerns about a blood test and would be keeping him for a few days. They then did a spinal tap. Since my ds's ship, the USS Never Sail, hasn't left due to engine failure, he was called off the ship to go to the hospital. It is fairly clear after talking to both of them that the doc's are checking baby for bacterial meningitis. I'm sure that you are all aware of how serious this can be. The culture takes some time to grow, 2-3 days. We'll know more as we go along. I wish so much that I could be there to hold my dgs that I have never held yet.
