Hello everyone!  My name is Terri and new to the board.  I have a question and didn't know really where to post it, but this looks like the best board!

I'm 48 and am really noticing my hair thinning on the top front of my head.  Yes, the area everybody sees first, naturally. : )    I first noticed this about 10 years ago, so you can see it has been a gradual thing.  It's not coming out in patches or anything, and I don't have a bald spot anywhere.  Well, it's gotten to the point now where I'm seriously considering using some kind of hair treatment, 'cause I can really tell.  I'm not sure that anyone else would notice, but I can sure tell it's not nearly as thick as it used to be.

Do any of you have this problem, and if so, what are you using for it?  I've done a little research on this, but I wanted to get first hand knowledge from other people.  Any info you can give would be great.

HI Terri

Welcome to our board. I don't have a problem with thinning hair but I do have a friend that does. She uses some special shampoo that she got from a beauty shop. I cannot remember the name of it. I think is it something her Dr recommended her to try. It seems to work pretty well for her. It didn't grow hair back just stopped it from thinning any more.

I hope someone here will have some

Hi and welcome to the board! I'm 47 and my hair has been thinning as well. I have long hair (almost waist-length) and I have always air dried it, which always took at least two hours to dry. Well, now it doesn't take near as long to dry anymore. I've always lost a lot of hair after I washed it and I really haven't noticed losing a lot more of it after I've washed it. But it definitely isn't as thick as it used to be. I haven't done anything about it. I've just chalked it up to gettting older and going through more hormone changes.

Gone past thinning to...Want to count the hairs on the top of my head. Had my thyroid checked and while low, borderline. Dr. said it could be anything from meds I've taken to stress. I'm using a shampoo called Enjoy right now. Someone else I know uses a different brand. Doesn't bring new hair, but does seem to stop the loss.

Good luck,

Rain

Hi Terri,

Actually, my daughter has a problem with thinning hair. Of course, the first thing to have attended to is having your doctor run a thyroid panel (make sure it's a complete panel). When all of her levels were fine, her doctor prescribed a shampoo for her. She says that it works very well, and she's actually had hair regrowth. My daughter, BTW, is only 25 years old.

Hi. I've been having that problem for several years. I don't use anything for it, but I'll have to admit I do catch myself folding my hair over my head...kind of like those old guys who try to artistically arrange their remaining three hairs to look like a full head of hair. I have always thought I should start standing on my heaad...something else I've been saying for years without ever doing it. My grandmother had a good friend, Virginia Diefenderfer, who was losing her hair. She was on the point of getting a wig when she started a yoga class, during which she did stand on her head. after a few months, her hair had started coming back. I've always meant to check it out but something keeps me from it...probably that feeling that my eyes are going to pop out of my head when I try it.

Have you had basic bloodwork done lately, especially a thyroid test? Thyroid disorders can often cause hair loss. In any event, I hope you find something that works for you.
