Hello all! When hubby retired about 2 years ago now...we sat down and made a list of things in the Twin Cities(Mpls/St. Paul) that we wanted to go see. When you start looking we have tons of Museums, Historical Sites, and fun places to go and see. Anyway made the list and didn't do much about it until this winter....It has been such a long and cold winter that we started whittling down the list....
Took an afternoon and went to the Minnesota Historical Society and saw the exhibit 150 things that make Minnesota, Minnesota....facinating! Other exhibits there that were wonderful too! Plus the building it's self was so unique...just fun to look at it...with the open areas and windows.
Then took an afternoon and went to The Minneapolis Art Institute...3 floors of all kinds of art...a wonderful exhibit of Asian/Chinese/Japanese art...many statues, impressionist artists, ancient art, Weaving, and the list goes on...Put it back on our list to go see more of it! Plus the best part...it is free with free parking....
Another aftenoon we went to American Swedish Institute. Facinating! It is in the only castle in Minneapolis...a 33 room house...in orginal furnishings....painted ceilings with matching imported Swedish porecelin stoves...13 of them! Wonderful!!!
This week we went to The Museum of Russian Art. It was a Spanish looking church in Minneapolis...turned into a museum....It was so well done....I/we knew nothing about Russian art...but very interesting! It is small and lovely! Then on the way home....we stopped at a local new little resteraunt called Lilly's cafe and wine bar...It is decorated like a quaint Italian resteraunt..very cute! So we had a sandwich and a glass of wine....such a fun way to spend an afternoon...
Plus other things we have done this winter....went to the Home and Garden Show, The Camping and Rv Show at the Minneapolis Convention Center..
We also have some outside places to go when(and if) the weather improves....lol...Plus at least 1/2 dozen or more other museums etc around the area....we are having such fun!
I think Mary's post about their explorations prompted me to rattle on....It is such fun that we have the time and opportunity to go to such wonderful places...I'm sure most of you have delightful places near you to go see....just go to some...you will be glad you did!!
Hugs, Ruth

Ruth,
Did that when my children were younger. Not to many museums in WI we haven't been to.
Found it to be a wonderful way to spend a day or afternoon. Interesting and eduacational. Nice to hear you are having such a good time. The places you mention sound fasinating. Hoping here that you post more on the places you visit.

HI Rj
Wow sounds like you went to some really neat places and so close to home. Funny how we live in or around a city for a long time but never actually go to see the museums and things like you and your Dh have done. It is so nice to just be able to go and learn about new things and explore. One of the best part of retirement I think.
Cannot wait to hear about your other explorations!!
Love ya
Hugs, and thanks for posting...My post got a little long....lol....Sure beats the heck out of watching tv...or doing housework...lol...I like being exposed to ideas and things that I am not so familiar with...It is fun and we enjoy each and every outing!
LOL...one of the benefits of living here....We do have some marvelous museums and places of interest....(Sure isn't winter...giggles)
HI Rj
You didn't get carried away at all I enjoyed your post and reading about all the places you and your dh had gone to. We love to get out and explore our area too and seems that I forget to post about them. So maybe we should both just remember that our friends here love to hear about our adventures as well.
Love ya
LOL...thanks Mary...we really have been having fun!
RJ, glad you have been doing so many things.
Don't ever lose that list; if we ever visit your
area we'll need it, LOL!
Continue to have fun!
