Anyone RSVP anymore???

I think I mentioned in another thread that DD#1 got married in Vegas this past Monday . Frank & I had planned months ago when they became engaged and said they were going to do the Vegas thing that we would throw a reception several weeks after they returned.

Well, I sent out invitations a month ago asking for an RSVP either by email or voicemail, and e-address and ph# were provided. Guess how many RSVPs out of 75 I have received. 5. That's all -- 5.

After talking to women at work about this, I was surprised to learn that RSVPs simply aren't done anymore, and that the NW seems to be the worst culprit for this. The rule of thumb, it seems, is that if you don't hear from them, they'll attend. Huh?

Most of the invitees are late-20s/early to mid-30-somethings who are co-workers and friends of the couple. Neither of them have too many family members.

So, Frank and I are forging ahead planning on food, cake and beverages for 75 people for next Sunday the 13th. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Hello, Nice Nancy! Thanks for weighing in on this and welcome to our board!

Yes, I believe it is a generational phenomenon, as well. Just another thing to blame us Baby Boomers for...raising impolite kids!

AND I think--at least here where I live and with the people I'm familiar with-- people don't like to commit in case something else comes along...how's that?

My sister calls it commitment-ile dysfunction! LOL!

Boy, I can imagine at $75 a pop, you'd want to know exactly who is coming! Thank goodness I don't have that much at stake, but still........!

Hugs,

Red, it's not always the young 'uns that are rude. One of the dc's is going through this with a shower she's giving. It will be at a nice hotel, with a very fancy lunch, and of the 30 people invited, she's heard from 17. Most of them are in the 20 and 30 age group. It's the "older" bunch, those in their 40's and 50's that haven't bothered to RSVP. Since, like Lori, she needs an accurate count for the number of plates, I told her to keep a list. Those that didn't call, can't come in. Since many are her sister and gaggle of nieces, I guess that won't work. LOL
