there beneath a pillar

a goose had built her nest,

along a road well traveled

she decided it was best!

she must have had her reasons

for the elements were there,

the wind,the rain,the predators

that ever present fear!

but alone she lay upon her down

this weary goose not shook,

from passers by,such as i

who do stop and take a look!

and wonder why this bird had chose

to nest her brood so bare,

beneath the pillar of this store

where folks drove by to stare!

she sits alone, her mate near by

he brings her food to eat,

but shelter none and so the rain

upon this goose did beat!

the wind blew long the rain did fall

and yet she would not move,

upon her nest she stands her ground

a mother thru and thru.

and

much like mothers everywhere

whose love outweighs their fear,

of any rain or wind that came

and threats that mite appear.

so on that nest she sits there yet

even when those skies turn gray,

until that time those eggs do hatch

and her goslings fly away!

for even then her love for them

she ll gently tuck inside,

within each heart,as they depart

her mothers love will thrive!!!

so theres always a story with an ode...i took my sister to walmart, and as i drove by the now defunct jewels food store,i noticed this goose who had built a nest of twigs and down, rite beneath the pillar of the front door. rite around the corner from this store is a lagoon, where trees brush cattails and high grass abound...i thought to myself why did you pick this location you silly goose, when you could have had comfort and camaflouge, from predators, rite around the corner...well she says...who is the silly goose here...im giving you fodder for an ode..ohhhhhhhhhh i say...well that says it all...and so an ode for mothers..and even those who are not,but still share the heart of one...an ode for mothers day,but im not waiting for mothers day to type it...do we really need one day out of 365 days, for someone to make a call and say happy mothers day?? i think not...so happy mothers day every day too all of you and for those who have shared many a motherly moment with family!

hugs mindy   oops i posted the pic twice...oh well..LOL

Beautiful ode Mindy. Fitting for all mom's. What would we do with out the mom's that have been there for others, yet have never given birth.

With the weather being what it has been, might be the mom knew her eggs would stay dry there. No constant

I love the ode Mindy, very nice one...but I can't even start to guess why this "mother goose" would lay her eggs there, out in the open, in the dry dirt....only she will ever know as we stay in the dark.

Awesome Mindy, another wonderful ode,
even if about the mama goose :)

And wouldn't it be fun to put your odes
to music, LOL!

I'll see you very soon!

Hugs,

Cindy

i concur with you rain, there are so many women that have not had their own children but were and still are there for others,be it their own family members or not! im still scratching my head as to why she chose to lay her eggs there..i drive up there to 41 to check on her..i just wish those eggs would hatch and she would take the kids to the lagoon..hugs min

i wish i knew too, gabby, there is another goose that i check on,she nested two blocks up from the lakefront, and she has come back these last 5 years to nest..in a tree...yes a tree..i have never seen a goose nesting in a tree before..but there she is..and her husband is close by and if you go near that tree you better be ready to run fast..LOL..he is really her protector...i go everyday to check on her as well,as do the nuns that live there..it has brought much conversation over the years..i attached a pic of the goose in the tree,if you can zoom in you can see the mother goose, look hard,as her colors blend in well..hugs min

Wow, that is amazing, Min. Wonder if that was the quietest place she could find? Looks like that storefront is empty. Maybe it was built upon a traditional nesting ground for the geese. Who knows? Maybe she's just a weird goose!

Very sweet ode, tho...thanks for sharing it and the pic!
