Obama rally

I had really been hoping to be able to hear both Hillary and Obama talk sometime while they were campaigning in Oregon. I didn't get to hear Hillary but my daughter and I did go to the Obama rally this past Sunday. It was pretty amazing.
It was held down at the waterfront...a long, green park area along the Wilamette River. The gates were to open at 12:30. We got there a little after 9:00 and people were already lined up for about 2 blocks. At one point they kind of consolidated everyone and packed them all together...probably to try to shorten the line which eventually ran for many blocks. This turned out to be good for us because they cut off the people going into the first block just as they got to us. That meant that were were first on the corner of the second block instead of being packed in with a bunch of other people. We had chairs to sit on, water and snacks. It was great sitting there just watching everyone for the time we had to spend before the gates opened.
When we got in, we ended up getting a pretty good spot...right in front of the podium and about 20 feet from it. We sat on the grass until Obama came at 2:30, again watching people, listening to music and envying the people who gathered a little ways from the shore in boats and kayaks. It was a hot day and being out on the water looked very nice.
The crowd was amazing. I had heard that they were expecting up to 50,000 people but it ended up being closer to 75,000...his biggest rally so far. Michelle and the girls were there which was nice. His speech was great. I don't see how they do it...day after day, sometimes 2-3 speeches, rallies and meetings in a given day.
After so long in the heat, it was kind of hard to make the drive home, but fortunately there were enough convenience stores along the way and I was able to keep myself awake by constant snacking. :)

Man, I saw the photo on the front page of The Oregonian and I couldn't believe it. It was a greater crowd than for any rock show I've seen down there! Just a sea of people. You were lucky to get a place there...I read that many were turned away or gave up out on I-5 just trying to get downtown.
You all are lucky to have a primary...we just had the caucus back in Feb.
Would have liked to have been with you Kat. Sounds like things went well for you. What did you think of his speech? Would have liked to see Hillery and Obama, time didn't suit here.
I've only been to one rally. Stood in the rain waiting for quite some time. Ended up in nose bleed seats.
Wow Kat!
How lucky for you and your daughter...this will probably be something she will never forget.
