Sewage Sandwiches

Aloha Dear cyber buddies!

I am tired of people always asking me “What do you do for a living?”  I feel below them if I can not top their profession so… I tell them I am retired. Sometimes that answer is enough but other times I can see it in their eyes that they think I am a looser because I have not worked in over 20 years.  Being a looser is bad enough in the eyes of strangers but what’s worst is when your significant other questions your abilities by saying stupid stuff like…

”Why don’t you do something productive with your life instead of sitting around the house all day driving our neighbors crazy there must be something else you can do with your time?” I got so sick of hearing that … that I decided to send my husband this little story via email.  He read it cracked up and said “Okay I get your point”…

Once upon a time, there was a wise Island Princess,
who went to the sea to contemplate life.

One day, while walking along the shoreline the Princess looked down the beach, and saw someone gracefully dancing down by the water’s edge.

The Island Princess wondered out loud,
"Who in world would so joyfully greet this day with a Hula?  Everyone knows everyday you get up you are just taking another bite out of that sewage sandwich we call life errr… happy people make me sick… why don’t they get real?” errrrr….

And with that thought the Princess began to walk faster to catch up to see who this nut case was that dare

to dance on her shoreline...

Getting closer,  the Island Princess saw that the dancer was a little Hula Girl
who was not dancing at all.

The Hula Girl was reaching down to the sand to pick up something
and was very gently throwing it back into the sea.

The Princess called out to the little Hula Girl
"Aloha! What in the world do you think you are doing? Do you have a screw loose or something?"

The little Hula Girl paused, looked up and replied,
“If you must know I am throwing starfish back into the sea."

Surprised that any one would waste their time doing this, the Island Princess sputtered,

"I…I…I……..I guess I should have asked, WHY in the world aren’t you at work or doing  something towards making something out of yourself instead of  throwing stupid starfish into the sea all day? Can’t you find something more productive to do with your time?"

The Hula Girl smiled brightly, pointed upwards towards the sky and with exquisite simplicity, replied…

"The sun is up, the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they will die."

"But, don't you realize you little nut case that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it? Asked the Princess … and then added

“You can't possibly think doing that will make a difference do you?”

The little Hula Girl listened politely. Then bent down, picked up another starfish,
threw it gently into the sea, just beyond the breaking waves and exuberantly declared,

"It made a difference for that one."

I believe that in each and every one of us, there is something very special We have all been gifted with the ability to make a positive difference in someone’s life.  If we are fortunate enough to fully accept and acknowledge that gift then we gain the power -- to shape the future of others. And that is what I try and do every single day of my miserable life dear husband.

Your Loving 3rd Wife!

Do any of you ladies ever feel below people because what you are doing with your life or spare time is not better then what the next guy is doing?

Aloha,

Lei

HI Lei

It has been a very long time since I felt that way. I am retired so that is what I tell people and when they ask what I used to do I tell them I was a housewife for a very long time. When my children were born I stopped working to be home with them because my dh job was very demanding and he was gone from home for lots of hours. It used to bother me when people would ask what I did and I would say I am a stay at home Mom.
