Morning All -

Ds called me yesterday late afternoon to tell me he will be deployed to Afghanistan - he will be leaving in mid-November for training and in Feb/March will be deployed.  He's part of the Texas National Guard (after spending 4 years as Army Airbourne back in the mid-90's - he decided 3 years ago to join the Guard) - he wanted to give back to his country (again) because he's been so blessed.  And though I applaud his thinking & actions - I have to tell you as a Mom I am very concerned.

I keep coming back to the question "if not him - then who??"  What I mean by that is what makes mine any more special than 'yours'??  We're all still processing all this - his wife, my wonderful dil, is having a tough time (and understandably so) - they aren't going to tell the kids yet as it'll be another 3 months before this actually happens.  His sister, my dd, is at a loss for words - - as she said last night - I know God won't give us anymore than what we can handle (though I think He pushed the envelope when their Dad died in 2002 of brain cancer) but I agree with her thinking . . and will once again draw on my strong faith in God . . . I don't believe that only bad things happen to bad people - I do believe that the "rain falls on the just and the unjust" but whatever comes in the months ahead - I know God will be right there beside us all.

I know there are alot of people who are opposed to the US being in Iraq & Afghanistan - but these are our sons & daughters over there . . . so the negatives need to be toned down and the troops need to be lifted up.

I ask that you keep all of us in your prayers - he'll be getting more specific orders today and I'll let you know then.  Dh & I has made reservations to take the 4 (ds & dil and dd & sil) to dinner tonight for birthdays & anniversary celebrations and we're still planning on going - - to make more memories to put in our "memory banksl"  Dh is so very wonderful with my kids - he's taken them into his heart and they love him in return - - as Dd says "Mom, we moved Dad over and made a place for him"  Such wonderful kids I am blessed with . . . thanks for letting me unload - - more later.  mec :)

I thought your post was wonderful and thoughtful..and ,of course you are concerned!!

I wish ds all the best, and may he come home safely...we have someone in Iraq..my stepds

We support our service people 100% even if we do not agree with some of the politics..because our service people do a heck of a job, do what they are asked...

I think we learned a lesson after Vietnam, and that is you don't take out your feelings about the war on the service men and women.

Life hands us some tough moments....best we can do is pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and go on

enjoy your evening out..bless your dh and his big heart

and we will keep you in our prayers

hugs

mc and i remember you as mj then..and what a very sad time you and your family went thru with your husbands illness, god family and friends, got you thru that, and the same will hold for what you are facing now. my heart is with all the men and women that are serving in the armed forces thruout the world. the last of my family to serve in that capacity was my brother in vietnam back in the sixties. i remember how my mother cried and prayed,we all did,for fear that he would not make it home.he did and you must keep the faith also, that your ds will be kept safe and come home again. i agree,he is to be applauded for his beliefs and his comitment! i will keep him in my prayers mc.hugs mindy
