Do you all do monthly self-breast exams? I was reading an article in More magazine that recommended doing them at least once a month, and it also explained irregularities to look out for. It also listed some other tips for maintaining healthy breasts like getting plenty of calcium.

Ever since a scare quite a few years ago, I've been diligent about breast self-exams.

Great information Cindy, thanks for posting! I agree that it can only help and not hurt to be cautious. The article also recommended to avoid sudden changes in your weight as that can increase your chances.

I do monthly breast exams. My Mom had breast cancer and did survive but lost her breast. She is not my biological mother as I was adopted but she made sure that I learned to do those self exams. I think they are very important. Thanks Cindi for posting that link for us it was very helpful for those who don't know how to do the self exam.

That is great that your mother taught you that, it's wonderful she was a survivor and caught it in time. The article also mentioned to begin doing them more diligently once you reach your 50's and 60's, since breast cancer is more common at that age.

No I don't do monthly self-exams and I have not had one from the doc in over 7 years. I figure the less I know what my body is doing the better off I am!
