Well - looks like Texas is in for a bad one :( I wish 'Ike" would pick a direction - the computer readouts from the NWS are bouncing from a Corpus Christi landfall or a Galveston landfall on Saturday morning. . . I've been through this before and know the only thing any of us can do is to be ready . . . so - we have batteries, full tank of gas in the car, plenty of candles, water, canned food . . yep - even though we're located in Northern Harris County (north of Houston) - we could still get the flooding and winds . . . it's one of those cases where I don't want it to make landfall in Galveston but I don't want it to go anywhere else either - I know - how about the darn thing just sit & spin itself out in the middle of the Gulf . . then it would be "no harm, no foul."
The oldest dgs's birthday is Saturday and we have a pool party planned for him . . but looks like we'll have a smaller family birthday party and then have his big pool party (with friends, etc.) next Saturday. He is such a trooper - his reaction was "that's okay - I'd rather wait so we can swim & have fun" . . kids - ya gotta love em!!
Well - I'll keep you posted - meanwhile, I'll still pray that the big thing just blows itself out . . .
Take care- mc :)

HI MC
Well it sure would be nice if Ike would blow out in the gulf but in case it doesn't I am sending lots of prayers for the safey of everyone who might be in harms way.
Sweet of your grandson to understand. Happy Birthday to him
Please keep us posted as Ike gets closer to your area.

August 28th was my last day at work - the 100 per day commute, gas prices and traffic time was too much . . . also I was (if you'll pardon the expression) tired of getting up so darn early (4:15 am) . . . well - I guess it's good that (for now) getting up early is still a habit . . . I got up this morning - turned on the television to hear that Ike has move slightly north/northwest . . bottom line the landfall is set for just south of Galveston and will then hook north . . which means inland winds gusting to 100 mph . . . we've already decided to stay with dd, dsil & gkds . . . ds & his family will be staying at their house . . . so I'm spending the day taking care of dd's little guy (16 months) and during his naps (yep - he still loves his naps) I'll be moving stuff off the patio and into the garage, etc.
MC,
You and your family, friends and neighbors are in my thoughts and prayers.
Mc I have had the weather channel on all day. Keep your head down girl! Wonder how Becky and Free are doing. I know Free is a little west but still close. All you TX ladies please check in when possible to let us know how you all are. Keeping fingers and toes crossed that Ike peeters out.
Smart grandson...Yep, he's a keeper:)

Looks like tonight's the night. I am so praying that the expectations for this storm far exceed the reality. Best wishes to all of you down there.
