This is the first time in 2 weeks I've been on line and months since I've been here.
We survivied Hurricane Ike. We had a 100 foot pine go down-but it missed the house-hit the neighbor's garage instead-but missed their cars-Thank God. We have some pool damage and patio damage-but they're just things. We were without power for 13 days. I've decided that I wouldn't be a good candidate for Pioneer Woman of the Year. I have to tell you that I have never been so scared in my whole life as I was for the 12 hours that Ike roared through. We're 45 miles from the beach and Ike didn't lose that much strength by the time it hit us. The airport by our house registered 96 mph winds, with 80mph winds sustained. I spent the night on my kitchen floor nestled between the island and some cabinets-LOL Thankd goodness I had enough fore sight to mop my floors that day. Dh thought I was crazy, but was glad to have a clean floor to sleep on.
TJ the wonder dog provided great security as did the other protective dogs in the hood. Thankfully no looting and after the second night, people who didn't belong in our neighborhood stopped coming up our street. Guess nobody wanted to deal with cranky dogs and people.
I rode my bike a lot to get groceries-it was easier than negotiating the streets without working signals. It was an adventure but one I don't care to repeat any time soon.
Just wanted to stop and say hi-hope all is well with my sisters
Becky

Hi Becky
I am so glad you posted I was more than slightly worried about you. What a terrible thing to have to go through but so glad there was not any big damage for you there.
Give your pooch some extra treats for keeping those looters away. I would sure hate to be without power for that long wow!!
I would not make a good pioneer woman either sure need the conviences that electricity affords me. Hope that soon this mess will all be cleared up for you and I know it will take a while for the rest of the mess IKE left. Thanks again for posting and hey don't be such a stranger.
Love
Becky, so very glad to hear you are ok... have wondered how you made out!
Glad to hear that the damage was not as bad as it could have been, and especially with no loss of life!
I bet that it was a very scary time...
Becky! So glad you are safe and checked in. to say we were worried about you TX gals is an understatement! Being without power for so long is an inconvience but better than losing one's life. This is coming from the woman who's kids call her the original pioneer woman. Then again I didn't have to experience Ike.
As far as the Huston Emergency Agency telling residents its safe to stay when they knew how bad the storm was is irresponsible and probably cost lives. This should be addressed before the next storm.
Glad all our TX ladies are safe and thanks for checking in.
