Oh no been thinking again LOL

That is a dangerous thing sometimes for me to do LOL. In chat today we were talking about being sick with one thing or the other for women in our age group. Those illness and problems that arise and we go to the Dr and hear that statement. "You are not a kid anymore" or " You are getting older you know" How I hate when a Dr says that to me. The fact is we are not getting any younger and things like UTI's happen much more often to some of us. Things go wrong, like what happenned to me with my gall bladder suddenly causing so many problems.

I always thought that when I got "older" there would be less stress in my life and yeah my body would have a few more problems. Aging is normal right?  Well I forgot about having to deal with aging parents, grown children who still need our help, and menopause, and grandchildren. Seems it just never ends does it?

I have found though that I handle things differently now than I did when I was younger especially when it come to health issues.  I am more likely to go see a Dr now when there seems to be a problem. However sometimes when I think something might be wrong with my health that I feel might be more serious it does scare me more now. I still go to the Dr right away though. Having no health history as far as family background is concerned I figure better have it check out right away instead of waiting. I have caught a lot of what could have been serious health issues by going to the Dr right away. Now not talking about sudden serious illness here, but something that just seems to be not quite right. No severe pain.

However seems to me a lot of women in our age group will put off going to the Dr if they feel it might be something serious because not knowing might be better than finding out? Sort of if you don't know, it cannot hurt you.  What do you think? True or False?

Mare,

In my experience, men are more likely to ignore symptoms, but many women do also.

HI Sooze

I agree with the high cost of health care and money being so tight now many may have to choose between seeing a Dr or buying groceries

Love ya

Mare, if I have a problem that I feel is serious, I'll bite the bullet and call the doc. If it's something that I'm not sure about, or feel is nothing, I'll do a bit of research online or call the nurse advice line that my insurance offers. Many times, it's a wait and see, and the problem goes away.

I do tend to put off some things that I probably shouldn't, but I get so tired of hearing the same lecture over and over again. I think doctors learn these in med school. I get the "page 63, paragraph 8 - overweight and out of shape" lecture. Trust me, I don't need to be told!!!! Anyway, that will often keep me away. Silly, but like I said, if I think it's something important, I'll go.

Hi Jan

I am glad you do take good care of yourself sometimes those things that go away are best treated just the way you have been doing them. I can understand not wanting to go to hear a Dr tell you that same lecture over and over again. I think that is sometimes why women will put off going to the Dr sometimes. We all have faults and Dr sometimes the same faults. Quit giving us lectures and help us with the problem we came to you for.

Love ya

I feel most women are pretty good about medical attention. Admittedly, I am not one of them. If I feel something's wrong I eval the symtoms and if I feel it warrants further tests will go and have them done. I do take my BP regularly and check for Brewies and femural arterial flow and give the results to my dr at physicals. He confirms and off I go:)

I do have to admit I have a fear of the unknown.
