Okay - Hurricane Ike made his dramatic entrance to our house as 4 trees crashed through our back fence and ended up laying across the backyard (2 across the pool with no damage to the tile) with the top of the trees literally inches from the back glass windows of the house (neighbors came from far & wide to see it and we soon became the 'house that shouldn't have survived') . . . the only damage was the detached roof garage, storm gutters and the fence.  The insurance issued a claims check; we hired a contractor and the work was completed (looking great) and for a cost of 48% less than the estimate - wow - when does that ever happen??  Bottom line (yes there is a challenge to this post) is I can now get the house interior painted (we've lived here almost 12 months and the interior is still the previous owner's paint colors) - I've been looking a paint colors, gotten suggestions from dd & ddil and are now ready to contact the painter for an estimate & time of work . . . my challenge??  I keep putting off calling the painter - I know they do great work for a very reasonable cost (they did dd's entire enterior a year ago and then recently laid her wood floors & ceramic tile) but for some reason I keep putting this simple task off to the side.  Does anyone ever put off doing something that they know is a great idea - and can't figure out why the "dragging of the feet"??  Or am I the only "turtle" out here???  Hmmm . . .

Hi MC

Glad the damage to your garage and back yard are done that must be a relief.

As for putting off calling about a job that I know will be a good thing yes I sometimes do that too.For me sometimes I think it is just that I don't want to put up with the mess it will cause while the work is being done. Other times I think I just hate to spend the money on a big project. I know it will be worth every penny spent and I will love it once it is done.

I want to get some painting done in my house. Just want to add some accent walls and for some reason cannot decide on the paint color I want. I am usually very good with color in my home but this time just don't seem to find the color I am looking for I guess or like you I am just putting off getting this job started. Well maybe after the holidays.

Now make that call and you will be so happy once the job is done and your house is looking just the way you want it too.

Love and HUGS

Just go look at some decorating magazines at the library or buy some at the store. That's hwo I get ideas, because I'm not very brave or sure of myself either. But when I SEE something that I think will work and I like, then I'll go for it.

One rule of thumb I try and go by is...if the wall has a window, try to complement the wall's colors with whatever you're seeing out the window.

The holidays are closing in and who wants tarps all over their house during this time of year? My advice is don't allow any work to be done until after the holidays. Also for the price you pay why not get a gallon/ half gallon whatever the smallest amount is and paint a large square in shadow and light areas and see how you live with them before paying out for a color you're unsure of. For me, I have to have warm colors. I can't do blues and greens well on walls. The put a cast to the rooms that have me withdraw from those rooms. They look great in magazines but not for me. Maybe you can think of rooms you've had in the past that you had good memories in. Also do remember that any red based paint is wicked to cover later. Sounds like with your woodwork that I'd want something fairly light to have it show up well too. I don't know about who you have in your home but if you have dogs or little children visiting often think egg shell. It is a very scrubbable semi-enamel that has a very soft look. But most of all enjoy your home. -BB
