Almost Thanksgiving

This holiday always seems to me to be mostly about the food any more. When I lived closer to my family it was more about getting together to enjoy the meal, but it also meant getting to see all my brothers and their families together at my Mother's home. Helping to cook the meal(Mom did most of the cooking until she was 93) Getting the table set for 20 people and a side table for the other 8.  Then after eating we would get those dishes and leftovers put away just in time for most to decide it was time for dessert. LOL. I didn't realize it then but it has become some of the best memories I have of my family.

Now living so far away from my brothers and Mom now gone. and my Dd and her family living across the county as well, it has changed for us. Bil and Sil would cook and then I did for a couple of years since moving out here. Then Ds moved out and it just became easier to eat out for dinner than to try to cook and deal with all the leftovers which Dh and Ds rarely eat. They say they will but most of the time it doesn't happen. I have to admit I am not very fond of turkey so I don't eat most of them either.  So we go out to eat with Bil and Sil and have a good time. I bake a couple of pumpkin pies  and we come back here for dessert. Less mess that way.

As always Thanksgiving reminds me to be thankful for my many blessings in life and this year I am going to try to be more aware of those blessing all though the rest of this year and next until the holiday rolls around again.

So just wanted to wish you all a " Happy Thanksgiving"  Tell us what you do for this holiday.

Mare that sounds a lot like it used to be for us when Mom was still with us, the family would always come home and the laughter and joy I swear would push the walls.

Hi Mindy

Well we have those lovely memories to think of anyway. Eating out seemed to be the easiest thing for all of us. No mess that way.

Happy Thanksgiving Mindy. Enjoy your day and don't work to hard in the kitchen.

Love ya

Hi Lor

Good times indeed. Traditions change as our families grow and people often don't live close to their families as much any more.

Thanks for the holiday wishes. I know your Thanksgiving was a month ago.

Love ya
