Flood!!!!

It started out to be a peaceful Sunday. Dh and Ds watched a football game on TV. I was doing our weekly laundry. The day had been a good one. At about 5pm we decided to have asian food for dinner and to go out to eat instead of doing carry out.

I usually shut the washing machine off when we leave but this time I forgot. We were gone maybe a little over an hour. When I opened the back door the washer was filling with water and I was standing in water on the floor. I shut off the washer and then noticed that the water was in my hallway and all the into the kitchen and the den and dining room. Oh my hardwood floors!! We immediately began getting the water cleaned up but seems there is some damage to my hardwood floors and the carpeting in the doorways to the bedroom is all wet. So now we are waiting for the insurance company to come and help get our carpets dried.

Dh found the problem with the washer seems it got stuck when it was filling with water for the rinse cycle and just continued to run water until our house was flooded. He fixed the washer now we need someone to fix our floors.

Oh no, Mare! What a mess! I hope the damage is minimal...maybe since the water wasn't standing for such a long time???? This makes me think....I bet I've courted disaster leaving the washer running before when I left!

Hi Lor

Well won't be a quick fix I don't think. Will talk to the insurance adjuster tomorrow. For now we have eight fans running to dry out the walls that got wet as well as the carpeting. The insurance company sent out a person today that handles water damage inside your home. Looks like my harwood floors are history. Well they will replace them but it will not be an easy job.

Hi Dutch

Yes very frustrating. The insurance adjuster is here now. The beautiful hardwood floors I had put down a year ago well have to be replaced. This was a major headache a year ago and will be probably even worse. LOL. Oh well whats done is done now to get it all redone. LOL

HI Dutch

Well what the heck. The insurance adjuster says they will need to of course clean the carpets once they are dry and repair the damage to the drywall and new baseboards, probably repaint the entire house because just painting where the damage is the paint will probably not match completely since the house has not been painted inside since it was built in Sept of 2004. Then we have the removal of the hardwood floors. Not an easy job since they had to be glued down. This is going to be a mess for a while.

Love ya
