Flood!!!!

It started out to be a peaceful Sunday. Dh and Ds watched a football game on TV. I was doing our weekly laundry. The day had been a good one. At about 5pm we decided to have asian food for dinner and to go out to eat instead of doing carry out.

I usually shut the washing machine off when we leave but this time I forgot. We were gone maybe a little over an hour. When I opened the back door the washer was filling with water and I was standing in water on the floor. I shut off the washer and then noticed that the water was in my hallway and all the into the kitchen and the den and dining room. Oh my hardwood floors!! We immediately began getting the water cleaned up but seems there is some damage to my hardwood floors and the carpeting in the doorways to the bedroom is all wet. So now we are waiting for the insurance company to come and help get our carpets dried.

Dh found the problem with the washer seems it got stuck when it was filling with water for the rinse cycle and just continued to run water until our house was flooded. He fixed the washer now we need someone to fix our floors.

Hi Sooze

My hardwood floors are not a year old yet. We never did get decorations up inside the house last year because they didn't get the floors done until Dec 24th. This year we may have them wait on repairs until after the holiday especailly with replacing the hardwood flooring.

I have a feeling I will not forget to turn off my washer again when I going out.

December seems to be my time to have my house torn up LOL

How is your Mom doing?

Mom is out of the hospital and in a skilled nursing facility about 30 minutes away.

Hi Sooze

Sounds to me like your brother needs a swift kick you know where. I am so sorry he is just not willing to hep help you with your Mom. Sometimes it seems there is that person in the family who will just not help when our parents are elderly and having problems.

You know I understand all you are going through. Take good care of yourself my friend

Hi Doreen

Actually I didn't say those choice words. This has been way to overwhelming. My hardwood floors are less than one year old. However the insurance company will pay to remove the damaged ones and put in new flooring again. So it will just be a hassle more than anything.

What an awful way to go into the holidays - So sorry you have to deal with the whole mess again - especially when it's not by choice...

Guess now's not the time to visit? :)

I never even think about turning off our washer and I'm still doing laundry most of the week it seems. I guess I've been extremely lucky...

My D32's mess ended up with replacing most of their baseboards, repainting the walls, and replacing one room of carpet. The hallway seemed to stretch back OK - but it was all in their brand new house at the time....she was not a happy camper - tho she did take it in better stride than SIL.

Take care.

Hi Jo

Well for sure not the way I had planned my holidays this year. Especailly since we are having our 7 year old dgs this year for Christmas.

The carpets are dry in the bedrooms still drying where the baseboards were in my hallway and kitchen and living room and dining room. The hardwood floors will have to be replaced and the carpets cleaned. The inside of the house painted. This is going to be a big job.

Hey come on down. The house is a bit of a mess but
