One of my old friends (if you will excuse the term..LOL) turns 60 this month...at a loss what to send her (she loves 3 hrs away), I made a donation in her honor to Red Cross
I got a very lovely and funny thank you yesterday:
Thank you for the wonderful birthday surprise. It was so thoughtful of you to make a donation to the Red Cross in my honor. It’s nice to know that turning the big 60 is doing something good for someone because it’s not doing much for me! Oh well, It’s just a number and not at all how I see myself. Thanks again for making it seem a whole lot less depressing
I just loved the underlined line!!! I know there are days when it is just a number and days when it is a bother...the other "big" #'s didn't bother me: 40,50.......but in April I turn to big 6-0..and it at least makes me pause and think!

HI Dutch
A nice way to send someone a birthday wish. I do agree not sure the 60 will make me to happy. However I get another year to wait for that.
Love ya
LOL....well been there done that...I am 61....did it bother me...no...I just look at the alternative....and am grateful that I am alive and healthy....No other choices!
Hugs, Ruth
yes, Ruth
my Irish grandmother had a saying about the alternative!
"once you stop getting old, you're dead" she was rather blunt!!
(Imagine this: in the 1930's another mother told her she made her daughter wear a religious medal around her neck when she went on a date, saying "so the boy doesn't go any lower than that"..my grandmother said"what if he starts at the other end?" !! can you imagine..back then?)
yes, I won't let it bother me
they other perspective: I have already made it past what my mother did..she died at 58
"don't begrudge growing old, some are denied the privilege"
you have it so right!
hugs
Dutch
well as Ruth has pointed out..beats the alternative! LOL
I was glad my friend was pleased, and the Red Cross can use it for some crisis
hugs

Well it is only a number and I didn't like turning 50 either. I agree it beats the other side of reaching 60.
Love ya
Dutch I have to admit turning 30. 40, 50 affected me little but facing 60 this October is bothering me. Our generation was the one who thought 30 was ancient but after hitting it found it was a snap. Sixty sounds so old. Growing up most people died in their sixties. While I have slowed down some why do I still feel younger? I no longer get on the floor and let the kids jump on my back as they once did
Thanks ,Bernie!
I know exactly what you mean
I have to remind myself what we CAN do, and how many don't make it this far
Yesterday I just had to explain AGAIN to someone why I wasn't taking the 7-8 Span leave from Feb -June..one of my former students who says she loved my classes and her sons are in these classes....I really don't want to do it everyday..(I sub and tutor) I appreciate her kind words but I don't know if I have the stamina any more for that.
Plus I was a HS teacher, not MS, a whole different ballgame!!
well hang in there!
hugs
Dutch
Wow what a thoughtful gift you gave for her.
What day in April?
