I have a day like I did earlier this week!
On Tuesday I had this woman and her little son come in to the library for some books and dvd's that I had ordered in for them.
The 3 year old boy was so excited it was almost like Christmas to him. He took each item in his hand and looked it over and then turned to me and said "Thank-You Lori" He neatly piled them on the counter and then came around my desk and said kiss and hug please.
His eyes were so wide open and he was so excited he grabbed his moms hand and said lets go home now so we can wtch the movies and read. It was so cute because as he was leaving he ran back and gave me a big hug and said "THANKS"
His mom told me that is how he works his weeks out, he askes if today is the day he can go see the library, or how many sleeps til he can come to the library.
I bet that little guy will be an avid reader when he gets older.
Yup days like that make my job so special.
Hugs,

Hi Lor
Awww how special. I can see why that made your week!! I think you might be right this little guy is going to be a love of books and an avid reader when he grows up. Thanks to libraries and parents who encourage children to learn and love reading.
Love ya
My dgd, who will be 3 in April, has a love for books also.
I used to volunteer in our town library and would work the childrens room. I'd read to the toddlers a couple of evenings a week and the amazment in the eyes of each one of those children was wonderful. Of course that was before we had dvd's and computers. I really miss those days and they no longer do story hour
that is just lovely, Lor!!
I bet he does become an avid reader..and how nice that his mom encourages it!
I was talking to dil about the great vocabularies my dgds have...aside from the vocab ds and dil use with them..no baby talk... I think the books they read, they movies they watch and the songs they sing have all added to their vocabs
you should hear them sing as they swing on the swings" "Let's go fly a kite" from Marry Poppins, "somewhere over the rainbow " from wizard of Oz....etc

That is way cool, Lor! And kudos to that mom for instilling the love of books to her son instead of sitting him in front of the tv. He sounds like a real sweetheart. I bet that really did make your day. Hey, we could all sure use some affirmation like that once in a while. Glad that happened for you!
Hugs,
Lori, what a sweet little boy! His mom is really doing a good thing, instilling in him a love of reading and books.
I envy you the hug!

I saw that with 2 of my girls when the school mandatory reading became all that they read, and lost interest.
Ah Thanks CIndy!
You know you might call them and suggest that they go back to having a story time rather than dvd, mention that the kids can watch movies at home almost any time but to have someone sit and read to them is something that is very special.
It is a shame that so many do not read, I see it with many young kids, but then their parents are not
