Today is my DD's 28th birthday...this makes me feel weird. A couple more years she'll be 30!
Well, I wallowed in this for a bit, then decided this isn't about me--it's about her. So I went back in my mind to when I was her age; I was raising a toddler and about to be p.g. with another. It's a time I remember feeling kinda bad on my birthday because I didn't get a cake anymore...and my DH was working in Alaska so probably no presents either.
So I decided to make my DD's birthday a bit more special. I didn't have time to bake her a cake yesterday, but last night I put in a pan of brownies and took them to her at her work this morning (along with a Starbucks card). She can share them with her co-workers. She seemed pleased. I know she has a husband now to "gift" her, but she just still seems to be of the age when she still likes to be surprised. Don't we all like to feel special sometimes?
DH competed in an "Iron Chef"-like competition in Seattle last weekend. It was a statewide competition for chefs in his corporation. He came in third, which he was happy about because the 1st and 2nd-place guys came from a fine dining background and Frank definitely does not. He is a self-made chef, coming from institutional and fish house background LOL! He knew he wasn't going to win, so he just had fun with it. He's kind of (well, not kind of, he's REALLY) a ham....high-fived everyone on his way up when he was introduced and flamed up his chicken dish....lots of goofy patter. SO yesterday, the regional Chef came to his work and asked him if he would please emcee the Oregon competition this Saturday! LOL! He does know how to work a room, that's for sure.
We had a nice time in Florida. I'm browned up at the moment -- from lots of time at the beach and at the ballpark--but I'm certain this NW drizzle will wash it away before we have any sun here. It was very hard coming back here....I guess I already bored everyone with that story.
The forsythia is just blazing here, and daphne (the Pledge plant) is perfuming the air here and there. I am quite anxious to get out in the yard and plant some stuff. We are planting a large vegetable garden this year, raised beds using the square foot method. This weekend rain or shine we are getting those beds made.
Well, better get to work here. Hope everyone can see spring coming where you are!
Hugs,

Hi Red
Happy Birthday to your Dd!! I bet she loved getting those brownies from you. My kids are both in their 30's now. Ds will be 34 in April and Dd will be 32 the same month. It does make me feel old sometimes to realize my children are almost to their middle 30's. You are so right though it is about them not us. I have been thinking about that a lot lately. Remembering when I was their age and what was going on in my life at that time. I was very busy with two little kids and living far away from my family. Dh was working a lot and was not home for very many hours. Having my Mom give me a call or send a card always made that birthday
Happy Birthday to your dd... wow 28 huh!
My oldest is going to be 36 in August. My youngest will be 30 next Feb. Now who's old? Lol
Glad you enjoyed your vacation. Should have picked me up on the way. Lol.
Hi GB and welcome to our board. I'm not sure I've met you before, but it's nice to see you.
Yes, I'm not sure what all this Grandma-old lady stuff is supposed to feel like, but I still feel in my mind like I'm only in my 30s. I still listen to rock (new stuff, not oldies), I have fun, enjoy the kids, but in the mirror, I'm obviously OLD. Like I said, it feels weird.
Welcome again....pop in anywhere and let us get to know you!
Nice of you to do that for dd's birthday..we all like to feel special!
yes, hard to believe our kids are that old! my dd will be 30 and ds 32 this year!!!
glad to hear you had a nice trip to FL
