Any empty-nesters out there with ideas about how to adapt to this new phase --- and all the free time?

I do work outside the home, but I teach, which means my work week has been the same as my kids'.

Hi and welcome to our board. My nest has been empty for a while now, my children are in their 30's with children of their own. It is a bit weird at first when you find yourself with no actual reason to rush home. Even with one still in high school it is just so different coming home to that empty house.

I found it hard to settle into the idea that my children just didn't need me as much at first. You stay busy find different ways to fill that time and soon you realize your babies have grown, you have done your job.

I do understand and I remember when my son started getting so busy and independent in High School.

Hi Lauren,

You're just not used to not having something to do for someone else all the time, sounds like to me. Now is your time. Think of things you've put off, or never had the time to do but wanted to....then do them!

Welcome to the board...I'm Red from Washington State. Empty nester times seven years now and grandma to 3 handsome little boys.

Thanks for all the advice --- and the warning that they will be in and out for awhile.

glad to help!

I know what you mean about being so involved with your kids..I remember Cub scouts and 4H (leaders in both), horse shows and soccer, skiing...so much!

but it is nice to have time for yourself

now decisions are more like: is this appropriate for a 4yr old? 2 yr old? 1 yr old? as we consider the dgks

and of course..where should we go
