I mean clothing...for yourselves? I used to do this...many moons ago. And I used to make clothes for my girls when they were little.

I may have asked this before....if I did, sorry.

I have been thinking alot lately about starting sewing again, because I just don't like anything I see in the stores, and I have to get everything altered to dwarf length anyway. But it's been so long since I've done it, I'm kinda chicken.

Geez, I've got the machine, and the time...do you think it would be like riding a bike? You just pick it back up? Have you taken it up after a long time? How was it?

I never had the patience to sit down that long and still don't Lol. However I wish I had learned. As a child when I lived with my aunt

I forgot to mention my aunt also sewed pj's and robes for everyone for xmas gifts and we always loved them. I'd put on that flannel granny gown and to me I'd feel like the belle of the ball when I was young. Didn't want to take it off.

I have to admit that sewing is not my thing. When I was pregnant with DD, 26 years ago, I did make curtains and a handmade comforter, but I just never enjoyed it. I had a kill-joy sewing teacher in middle school (aka junior high) who destroyed whatever love I might have had for making my own clothes. One of my best friends is a high school home-ec teacher and what she inspires her kids to create is awesome, but I just don't want to do it. DD sews well and she seems to enjoy it - for her senior project in high school, where you had to acquire a skill that would engage with your talent, my Drama girl sewed a set of hospital scrubs and wore them to present a monologue from a play whose name I forget that had the character be dying young of cancer...she knocked everyone's socks off...I still decline to sew...but I think you should go for it if you think you would enjoy it!

I used to sew a lot..and all sorts of difficult things..from my own dresses to men's pants and jackets...plaid!..and matched it!

have not really sewn beyond repairs since dd was little...I think it was her Cabbage Patch costume and the 2 billion leaves that put me over the edge..LOL

seriously: it became not worth it in terms of TIME, cost of materials...etc

but if it were something you WANTED to do...well, then it might be worth it

I do not need that frustration! LOL

(I had a great Singer machine from 1971 until about 10 yrs ago, Ihave new Lancome which I have not even used

got it in 2004 at a retirement present to myself, using a gift certificate I got as a retirement present from the Teacher Center)

Creativity and enjoyment I'm not so sure about....but since 1) it is something I know how to do, 2) I have a perfectly good machine, and 3) I don't like the styles in the store and have to alter everything anyway.....I think I'll try it. Will watch for fabric on sale. We still have a couple fabric stores in the area which are not primarily craft stores. They have good specials occasionally, I notice.
