It's about time I plop my okole down on the iVillage couch and
hang with you all again!
Before I forget, what time is our chat on Yahoo (pacific time)?
This whole year so far has been so busy for our family ... we
are up to 13 grandchildren now and want more LOL; so with that
comes family events all the time.
But if you look at my Facebook albums, seems like we have been
partying with friends a lot. Well, we are always doing both, but
family takes precedence of course.
Anywhooooo, here is what has been happening with Greg as of late.
On Facebook I posted a little on him, but not the following...instead
relaying that via phone calls and messages received. Too much to
type LOL!
On May 7 he was diagnosed with gout. Okay, no problem, just take
meds and tweak the diet a little. Things are fine for over three weeks.
But on May 30 severe reactions to the gout meds allopurinol and colchicine
begin to manifest. Except that we did not know that because it was over
three weeks later. Rash, fever, swelling, etc.
After a few days I took him to ER and good thing! -- he was so ill and
the effects nearly shut his remaining kidney down! Gout went away tho.
They kept him in the hospital for 4 days; the docs did not want to
release him until they were triple-sure that his kidney would work
at a good percentage.
At this point, he is on steroid therapy to undo what the gout meds did,
but for now, he has "steroid-induced diabetes".
He will have that for about a month, when he goes off that therapy.
So...diabetic supplies, needles and insulin are my friend now. :)
We had no experience with this, but we learned fast!
It is not so bad... I give him his shots at 8:00, 1:00 and 6:00 or
thereabouts, and his diet was never sugar/glucose heavy.
This still allows me to do whatever I want, as long as he gets
the shots; you know me, I cannot keep still and am always running
out the door for some activity or another.
Physically, he is able but he tires easily; that will improve
as well.
As for me, I'm good, and happy for all the support from family and
friends; some arthritis in my right hand but those little things
are nothing in comparison. Can still dance. LOL!
Love to all,
Cindy

Thank you, Jan. And how have you and B. been?
Greg is getting better; we are beginning to wean him off
the prednisone so the diabetes should disappear in about
two weeks. Would love to have my athletic partner back!
