I had plantar fasciitis about 10 years ago and ended up getting custom fitted orthotics (shoe inserts) which worked. It went way and I hadn't worn them for awhile. This year it acted up and my orthotics are now 10 years old and probably should be replaced (starting to crack). If I order them from the podiatrist they will cost about anywhere from $200.00-300.00 what I paid back in 2000. Back then they didn't tell me that it wasn't covered by insurance so I got quite a shock and had to pay for them. Recently I bought a pair from a store for $19.99 which are a little different. They're thicker in size and have 3 different inserts that fit into the arch area. The instructions say to break them in slowly by wearing a few hours a day. I've only tried them for a few days and followed the instructions and removed them after the alotted time.
Has anybody ever used custom fitted orthotics first and later switched or tried ones from a store or bought online? How did they work?
