Question of the Day: Do you consider your writing to be a hobby, or
more of a vocation?
I'll tell you what made me think of this after you all answer! LOL LOL

Definitely a vocation. If it was a hobby, I would have stopped pulling my hair...m
out a long time. Good question!

Although I do take it very seriously, I think of it more as a hobby (M)
I have a hard time calling it a vocation because I love to do it so much, though to be honest, it's also because I haven't sold yet. I think once I have something to show for it (other than my stories, mind you) I might start to think differently or when I actually have to work for it (like with a medieval where I'd actually have to do some research). But mostly it's just because I love to do it. How can something this much fun possibly be a job?? lol

Oh-the fact that I use it as an escape from the kids also helps. n/t

Definitely a hobby....for now (n/t)
Ang boy you picked a tough question!!!!! (m)
Well I consider my Writing as hobby, but why have a hobby that frustrates you. Are hobbies ment to be funny and something the you love to do? LOL I love writing, but I guess I had better stick with it as a Hobby.
LOL did this make sense? sorry my mind has been wandering as I type this.

I notice you avoid the term 'obsession'! (m)
Neither, more serious than a hobby (doesn't that imply amateur status? tho it's true writing fills those empty hours and keeps me out of trouble). And I don't like vocation, which sounds altogether too high-falutin'. It's what I do, it's what I prefer to do, altho other things like a 40+hr/week job get in the way.

Definitely vocation, but I want it and enjoy it. nt
Not a hobby, nor a vocation .... an apprenticeship?more
I really want to be a professional writer. I write every spare minute I get, though I have to put my small children, ages 3 and almost 2, and my job as a day care provider, first. I consider this my training period. I am writing my first book, and I will keep writing and working on the side until I get something published. Once (IF) that happens then I am going to stop doing daycare, I figure by that time the kids will be at school, so I'll write full time then. I really really really want this to become my vocation, but for now I have to settle with an apprenticeship that I have to fit around the rest of my life.
This was a great question, I haven't voiced these dreams to anyone but my husband. I won't tell the rest of our families, because I am afraid I am setting myself up for failure. It will stay my secret until the day it actually happens. IT's nice to tell someone about my secret life!

Great answer!! I wish you the very, very best. nt
Writing is my CAREER, let me explain...lol. A hobby is to tinker with, a vocation or job
is usualy what one is STUCK with to pay the bills, etc. But a career is CHOSEN because you either love the work, you excel at it, or both. So writing is definitely MY career; because I LOVE it, excel will come with time! lol TY for asking. Gee, Ang, you're certainly thought provoking! Just glad they're easy questions for me to answer! Now I'm waiting for you to lure me in, then you'll ask a whopper! lol
