I am 33 and on Ortho-tri-cyclen. I have 2 children whom I got pregnant with on the first ttry each time. I would love a 3rd at some point, but not quite yet.

Well anyway, on Sat. I was in the first part of my pill pack (something like 12 - 13 days past the start of my last period). DH and I, well, did it if you will on Sat. afternoon. Sat. night I forgot to take my pill. I remembered about 7:00 am on Sun. and took it then. Well, Sun. afternoon I saw what appeared to be signs of ovulation. I don't mean to be stupid, but aren't you NOT supposed to ovulate while on the pill???? I don't think I've ever noticed this before while on the pill.

I wouldn't be concerned, but with my past pregnancies getting preg. so quickly, this has got me wondering...is it possible??? I drink alot of coffee and sometimes diet coke and if I were preg., I shouldn't be doing this!!!

What do you all think? Any advice??

TIA,

C.C.

I have a million questions myself. But I think I can help you with this one. I was on Ortho Try Cylen as well, and I ovulated every month that I was on it, so chances are you did. I don't know if that helps, but hope things go well for you

Hi there,

Yes, technically the bcp does stop ovulation, but they also change the lining of the uterus and change the cervical mucus of our systems.

I would imagine that your body was trying to compensate for the late bcp. I have done this in the past, and it has never been a problem for me. You can get EWCM from an estrogen surge as well that has nothing to do with fertility.

I think you are fine, but if you are late for your period, I would test.

The pill does not stop ovulation in every instance. That is the pills primary function, but when that portion fails, and ovulation occurs, the back up is to make the lining of your uterus thick to the point that your fertilized egg can't attach itself, so that in turn causes a very early abortion. That's why the pill is considered an abortifacient. But even still, some women get pregnant when they take the pill faithfully, so who knows
