What is clomid used for? And how is it different from Proveria?

Provera is a brand-name form of progesterone. Progesterone is needed to help build the lining of your uterus so implantation can occur. Many women also take Provera in order to force a menstrual flow (it doesn't force ovulation). You may also see people reference a drug called Prometrium. It's also a brand-name form of progesterone.

Clomid is a brand-name for clomiphene citrate. Clomid is a fertility drug that forces ovulation. Clomid needs to be taken on specific cycle days as prescribed by a doctor. (The most common CD are 5-9 or 3-7, but 1-5 is also gaining popularity.)

Provera and Clomid are often used in tandem with one another. In women who do not ovulate, the Provera is taken first to induce a menstrual flow. This way they can take the Clomid on the appropriate cycle days.

In women with low progesterone levels, they may take the Clomid to force ovulation, and then take the Provera to help with any possible implantation. (Without the Provera, their low progesterone levels would increase the likelihood of m/c.)
