Still waiting to see a doctor

I haven't had a pd. since late Sept. Honestly, I never thought about the possibility of being pregnant. I waited for my pd. in Nov. but when it didn't come I took 2 different hpt on two diff days (to be sure) and they came out positive. I went to a clinic had another test done and was positive too. I do have symptoms like nausea, sore bb., etc..., but I'm still not sure. Wanting to find out what is going on, I called my ob/gyn of ten years to make an appt., but I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED NEXT. I was told that the doctor had already filled his pregnant women slots for my expected due date and that they were retiring next year anyway. So, that I should look for another doctor. I felt so confused and helpless. I just picked up the phone book and started calling; in one office they wouldn't accept my ins., in another they wouldn't take me because by the time I could get an appt. (in 3 wks.) I would be too far along. I cried then I called the hospital referral and was given only one dr's name and number. Turns out they will be able to see me (until Jan. 8!). The ONLY thing I don't like about it is that the doctors are the parents of my daughter's classmate, and friend for the past 3 yrs(I SAW their names in the phone book and avoided them at all costs). This year we moved to another school zone, so we haven't seen them since last year. Now, I am sooo embarrassed about going to see them. But I want to know for sure. I am so anxious about having to wait. My stomach is bigger but I don't know if I am pregnant.

id say you are pregnant if you have had 3 positive tests. is there a planned parenthood in your area that might see you? if you can get some prenantal vitamins from the pharmacy, they have some that are OTC. if you cant get in to see an OB/GYN at this time try calling some general practitioners or midwives. some general practitioners will see pregnant patients and you might get in sooner and midwives are great, i had one during my last pregnancy until they found out i had diabetes and then i had to see the ob since i was then considered high risk. congrats and good luck.

"they wouldn't take me because by the time I could get an appt. (in 3 wks.) I would be too far along."

what? I don't understand. You're not even sure that you're pregnant, and somehow in 3 weeks you'd be too far along? I think the only way you'd be too far along to see an OB is if you already had the baby...

I don't understand where the confusion is here. First off, you have had THREE positive pregnancy tests! You have NOT had a period since September! You say you have symptoms and your belly's getting bigger. I think going by that and that alone, you ARE pregnant!!!

ANY OB will see you, regardless of "how far along" you are! Is the area you live in that small that there are not many doctors in the area? Even a family practicioner can confirm your pregnancy for you. You don't have to go to an OB to confirm it. I'd go that route and see if your family practicioner can refer you to a different OB that takes your insurance. You MUST get into the doctor ASAP so you can begin getting prenatal care for your baby!

Thank you for your concern. It appears to be that in this town there are doctors who won't see you. The two offices I called have in total 12 doctors, 2 nurse practitioners, and 4 midwives, so I thought that maybe I had a chance at being seen. Oh well, I went to a health clinic in the mean time, was checked and got my vitamins and info. about nutrition. (I sure didn't have this problem with my first child 9 yrs ago. I was 12 wks. when I went in to see a doctor for the 1st. time, of course, that was in another town.)

Merry Christmas to you and your family.
