Silly me... Haven't been using birth control and have been relying on a method that doesn't make any guarantees. Now that I've educated myself on the potential risks of using that particular method AND I'm a few days late (not to mention the sore boobs, mood swings, and tugging feeling in my lower abdomen) I'm scared that I'm pregnant. I took a test a couple days ago and it came out negative, but it was pretty early. I'm really hoping that this weird feeling that I have is just my imagination taking off. Is it usual to start having symptoms so early? Is it possible to get pregnant a couple days after the last day of your period or the week before your period is supposed to start? I thought that you were only able to concieve during a 48 hour window around the 14th day of your cycle?

Every woman is different. That 14 day thing is pretty much a myth. You can ovulate anytime between 9-18 days into your cycle, depending on the length of your luteal phase and when you expect your next period to begin. So technically, you can ovulate and get pregnant during any time in your cycle. The only way to know for sure when you ovulate is to temp and chart. Otherwise, it's pretty much guess work.
It could be your mind playing tricks on you, but I'd say wait a week and retest if your period still hasn't arrived!
Good luck!
