thought I better pop in and say good evening. We had a

very nice trip, we played golf everyday but one, metal detected,

ate to much. I drove up to a Danish town called Solvang and

looked around and stopped in a little casino, won a $100 and

decided it was to long a drive to be by myself late so I came

on back to the hotel, its by Santa Barbara,Ca. It was nice to

see the dh finally relax and get some color in his cheeks. The

only glitch in the whole trip was fri evening when we were just

turning into our hotel at a 3 way stop. Vern was in the middle

of his turn and we do not know if it was a man or women, ran

the stop sign on my side going about 60, I screamed that they

were not going to stop and Vern stepped on the gas as fast as

he could and the car swerved and missed my door about a foot.

We almost ended up in the lobby of the hotel but he was able

to stop just in time. Vern said I would of been killed out right.

and there would not of been anything left to bury.

All I could think of was my daughter. When we got the car back

to our parking spot, we both shook for an hour, we both said

that we were so fortunate, because there was another car coming

from the off ramp but he stopped at his sign, thank the good

lord for angels. So ladies other than that we had a most wonderful

trip, and glad to be safe. Talk to you tomorrow. Angels Flying

Low tonight. Betty hugs.

Good grief. That was very frightening just for me to read and I can see why you all shook about it for a long time. It is good that you and DH had that special angel looking over you. I wonder how some people even get a license to drive. I assume this person just went on their merry way, never knowing how close you came to being killed by them..

Thank God you are here to tell us about it..Becky

OMG Betty, I'm so glad that your husband was able to avoid an accident. What a terrible experience. I notice that my DH always steps on the gas fast to get out of the way when some bimbo is running crazy on the road. I just head a report on t.v. about a lot of our foreigners coming in that drive cars, no care or respect for our rules of the road and they don't even have licenses or speak English. This really makes me feel like we're all being stepped on and we are the ones that have lost our rights--and after trying to follow all the rules and regulations so that we will be safe. Thank goodness that Vern and you are alright. We were going through Connecticut last year, and 18 wheeler hit us from the rear, so definitely not a fault of ours. He jackknifed and pushed us against the jersey barrier and we were trapped in the car for a couple of hours. We weren't hurt which was a miracle in itself. This truck caused an 11 or 12 car pileup, all the other vehicles had to be towed away and we were the only ones able to drive off after we got towed away fromt he barrier. Scary. Yes, thank God for the angel on our shoulder that night! Stay safe my friend, and get in some good relaxing golfing. Bea

Thank you Bea, I am very suprised that you or your hubby was

not hurt being pinned in for so long. Was the trucker cited or

was it weather related ? Just being pinned in would of been very

terrifing for me. So glad you were ok. I agree completly on the

drivers that do not speak English and drive without insurance,

and in Ca that is the norm. Have a wonderful day. Betty hugs.

Betty, it turned out alright that we were pinned in the car for the couple of hours because actually it was the safest place to be. It happened on the highway about 2 a.m. and weather was good when we started our trip but a cold front went through and the roads iced over. Ted was aware of this and we were going slow, and 2 cars spun out in front of us and we got through those alright and would have well been on our way except the 18 wheeler did not slow down and pushed us from the rear. With Ted stepping on the gas we didn't get damaged as much (although it still was $7,000 worth of damage when fixed) but then the truck's front bumper wouldn't let go of the rear of our car, spun us around as he jacknifed against us. We ended up next to jersey barrier and wedged in with the truck on the other side, and didn't have one inch to even try to open a door. The truck driver couldn't get out his side of his truck cab, so he very nicely kept stepping on the hood of our poor little car to get in and out and see what was going on. Now, because of him about 9 other vehicles spun out of control trying to avoid him. They wanted to use the jaws of life to get us out of the car, but DH kept yelling '"NO, NO, NO"--you know those Irishmen when they get going. He asked the safety personnel to please check to see if we were leaking or if the truck was leaking and seeing as nothing was leaking, we decided to just wait it out. We were next to last to be towed out as the truck was the last and as I said, we were the only one able to drive away. We were very lucky, need I say more. Yes, the truck driver certainly got cited because he was traveling too fast for the conditions at the time.

Anyway, we marveled at how fast the police, tow trucks, fire dept., ambulances, even photographers, etc. got there. We didn't see it on t.v. but I have heard that it made the news because it was such a pile up. We continued on our trip to NC and I had told Ted to please just go home and I would call our friends and cancel. But, no, that stubborn Irishman just kept going when he found out the car rode well. But, about an hour back on the road and I was so sick it was unbelievable. Nerves. And I guess this is where I can believe that I have a nervous stomach problem.

Anyway, all's well, we are alive, and with the new med's I am not not afraid to be on the road again. Up until now, I was a basket case. Thank God you guys escaped your near miss and that you are well. Sometimes it can affect you emotionally as well as physically though, so please take care. Have a good day. I think I told you more than you ever wanted to know, but I'm just a gabby one. Hugs. Bea
