I feel I'm missing much on the board.I read and answear what I can get to and then have to get off before I post.

We had a great two weeks. The weather was awful, but so what. We enjoyed all the graduation stuff. There were 96 bright young men and women that are now MD's and going on to specialize.A great deal was said about the patient and how they should really look to the whole person and be really one with them. I do believe that some if not all want to be that way.I pray they are.

My daughter had a "This is Your Life" party on the Monday after graduation. She had his 7th grade teacher, a childhood friend that he lost touch with,a cub scout leader and several others hidden in the garage as she went through his years and they came out on cue.Nice evening finished off with lots of cake and coffee.

The rest of the time my dd showed me how to burn disks of pictures and music on the pc.We also worked with clay.I'll show you that with pictures--sometime soon I hope.

Now it's midnight and that's very late for me.Thank you for the warm welcome back.Sorry this was so long--martha

Your time with your DD sounds like it was filled with great things. The party is such a good idea - but took a lot of organizing. Also, glad to hear that these new MD's are learning to treat patients like people. I do think that they are hampered with all the threats of mal-practice, etc., and have to protect themselves with more tests than might be necessary. What speciality is your DGS going to pursue? And where will he go for his further training?

There is a big discussion here in England about the medical situation - of course there is free care for everyone, but the waits are so long. Now, it seems that there aren't enough trained technicians to operate all the scanning machines, etc. so this expensive equipment is standing idle, while people who need treatments are waiting. There are cases of women with breast cancer, having to wait up to 3 months to get radiation treatment because of the shortage of people. My DSIL has a problem with dizzyness - and asked to see an EENT specialist - he is on a wait-list - might be months before an appointment is made. So - with all our complaints in the US - we are better off in most cases.

Glad to have you back - sorry about the weather. Rosemary

My dgs is going to be an Anesthesiologist. That's another four years. His studies have given me great respect to all they must go through to be a Dr. And yes there is much that takes the joy of practice from them.I'm sure the HMO's drive them crazy.Of course he has not had to deal with any of that yet and his choice the hospital picks up all the insurances.

The specialty that is really suffering here in the states is Obstetrics-They are the most sued of any.I think out of 96 there are two. Many of those in practice are retiring and the women must really travel to get to a Dr. Bad stuff. Doesn't sound good over there either.I think we'd best learn to be careful and not need the Dr's so much--like we had a choice.

The party took a great deal of planning. She's that type and does it all well.

You're almost home!What memories you will have.martha

My gosh Martha, I didn't think that post was long at all--if anything, it was very interesting. The graduation sounded great, and the "This is your Life Party" sounded like lots of fun and full of many suprises I'm sure. Your daughter sounds like a gal to initiate something like this as that takes a lot of planning. Isn't it nice when they can show you something new (to us) to do on the computer; burning pictures and discs is great and makes it so much easier to send also. My DH burned all our old cd's so that we would have another complete set to take to the lake, but I understand the new musical cd's have something now that you can't copy them. Darn, just when we learn something new, then technology has to move up another step and ruin our fun. So, welcome back to the everyday grind, have fun getting back into routine. BEA
