Hi Friends,

I was thinking today what a fortunate group of women we are, able to chat across the world, we are loved by our families, have full & plenty to lead comfortable lives. I think the thing that started me thinking this I watched a documentary about parts of Africa where the Aids virus is now out of control, the suffering of the women & children was shocking to watch, there are so many women oppressed in this world that one feels very helpless.

I watched Dr. Phyl today while resting, the subject was tipping & the attitudes of husband & wives about this. I was amazed as tipping is very rare here, I don't think I have ever had to tip once in my life. I guess there would be tipping in the upper class establishments here now, when we used to go to very nice places to eat a few years ago you never were expected to tip, mind you girls I will admit I am a bit out of circulation now, I think we are a bit tough here if you get reasonable salary you are expected to give a good days work includind service.

I will come to a close as I am starting to ramble on, love & HUGS to everyone Doreen.

Boy did you say it.We are indeed a fortuate bunch.I can't imagine how so many of the people in this world can live the day out with the conditions they live in.

I'm sorry to hear tipping has spread.I do think good wages would be better,However I don't know that those that have to depend on tips want it any other way. That is if they are in a good spot. The poor gals working in the cheap places, if anything, work harder and get less.

Doreen, when I see your post it puts a smile on my face.Thank you.martha

morning doreen, america is a tip happy place.i feel the same with you though,if a person is paid a good salary then they dont need a tip.but alas some of the waitress and bus people that work in resturants get paid very little and the tip is over 50 percent their wages!!!! i do tip my hair stylist too, cause i feel i am at her mercy to look good!!LOL LOL not really she gets paid only a percentage of my hairdo,so the tip there makes up her wage as well!! but i draw the line at tipping people who bag your groceries, thats what their paid to do!!!as far as the the plight of people worldwide,it does make your heart sick to see the suffering and it makes me wonder why we have so much and some so little.and why some have to suffer more then others, all we can do is pray that hope that countries improve their politics and care of each person they have under them.i fear we are all at the mercy of our government!!take care doreen and have a good day!!((hugs))mindy

Hi, Doreen! Lucky you, no tipping?! It seems like everywhere I go a tip is necessary...the hair dresser, hotel housekeeping, wait-staff (from truck stops to elegant restaurants), porters & I'm sure there are more that I've forgotten:-(

You are right we're fortunate to live where we do. The question that always comes to mind is...why us & not them? I thank God for that & this board of friends.

Love & Hugs back to you! Cal
