Guilty pleasure evening

We finally got an evening warm enough (mid 70s) for me to sit outside after supper - just been too cool and damp most days to even sit out during the day. An afternoon trip gave me a supply of magazines from the library to browse. What a joy to leave the dishes on the counter, pots unwashed and plop down in a nice cushion chair. The birds were chattering like mad - I think our little wren house has new occupants. We live on a main street, but the traffic just flows by quietly, so I don't even notice it anymore. I cruised through a month old Good Housekeeping and a year old Real Simple magazine and got several ideas - all free, no subscriptions to deal with. I did forget to make iced tea, but the lemonade did just fine. Of course, the weather forecast for Fri. is a bad storm coming in from the Plains which will give us possible hail/tornado/thunderstorm. So, I'll be stuck inside then, but today was lovely. Wishing all a chance to kick back and smell the roses while you can - it's a long winter for some of us.

Sounds like a loverly evening Jacquie--you are so right to stop and smell the roses!! I hope the storm moves through quickly and you get more spring-like weather. Have a good weekend!

I always admired my DMs attitude about cleaning up after supper when company came. She would insist they just leave the dishes in the kitchen (no dishwasher) and sit down and visit - figured she had all the next morning to wash dishes and think about the pleasant evening they all had. Great attitude for a woman who worked 5 nights a week on her feet well into her late 60s. DH is not a cook, nor one who volunteers to clean up after I cook. Thank goodness I have a dishwasher. He gets his dishes the counter, so I am grateful for small things. The rule is I load the thing, he unloads. I can pack way more dirty dishes in than he can and they still come out clean.

I haven't vacuumed or mopped in 20 years! That's because DH took that job over when I went to work full-time and he was semi-retired and working from home. His back is stronger than mine and he really gives everything a once-over. He uses an old-fashioned cotton deck mop with Murphys oil soap on the wood and tile floors, then wrings it so dry the floors are ready to be walked on as soon as he finishes the job. The other job I gave him was the main "staples" grocery shopping. But - now that I'm home full-time, I do this once again. The local store offers car loading, so I only need pick up the 21 lb box of cat litter once. I like to read the labels for nutrients and DH just get whatever is on sale. I have found the price differences amazing. Some of the no-salt or low-salt items have.
