I'm Getting A Roomie

Yes, it looks like I'm going to be getting a roomie for a while.  My 19 year old dgd that moved to Arizona to get acquainted with the father and grandparents that she never knew has decided that it's not working out and wants to come back home.  The problem is that she has no job and no place to go.  I so want her to be back up here with the family that, after much consideration, I said that she could move in with me.  I'm very concerned because I've been alone for quite some time now and not sure how I'll be able to handle someone living with me, especially someone that can't seem to hold a job for very long and keeps flitting from place to place.  I've set up a short trial period and set up some rules.  I want to be sure that I don't have to start cleaning up after her or find loads of kids over-running my house.  There will also be the requirement that she'll have to get a job and pay towards food and expenses.

Needless to say, I'm still a little hesitant but I just couldn't say a flat no. I love her dearly but she just has to learn to be responsible.

Oops, it's starting to thunder again.  Must be another storm coming in on the squall line that we've had lately.  Guess I'll get off of here for a while.

Kaci - I give you a lot of credit - but I bet you will be very helpful and a strong role-model for your DGD. It's good you have set up rules right from the start - then there will be no problem enforcing them. Wasn't this the DGD who was going into the service at one point? What happened to that - and thank goodness, also. For some young people it is really the answer, but in this frightening world, I wouldn't want it to happen. One suggestion that I've heard about - in addition to a job, could you require some volunteer work? Maybe with the homeless, aged, or children in crisis. It might give her some perspective about how good her life really can be. Good luck - Rosemary

It's her brother that's very serious about wanting to go into the service.

Yes, I had my doubts that it would work out but I can see now that she had to do it to gain some perspective on the other side of her parentage.
