Wow! June is half over already. I hope the whole summer doesn't go as fast. We got a lot of work done yesterday. Today is nice and warm & sunny. I think I'll head down to the lake. We can't go skiing or tubing because there's a "no wake" condition on right now because of the high water. The locals say that it's about a foot over normal but that's enough to cause havoc to some residences. We can go swimming though. I guess there are storms predicted for later today but then we should be in clear weather for at least a week. I understand that the northern half of Illinois is currently under some kind of watch or warning but that one isn't suppose to effect us.
We got a call from my dgd-Amanda about 6 o'clock yesterday. She was trying to surprise us by heading home from Arizona a couple of days earlier than we thought. Trouble was that she got as far as Cedar Rapids, Iowa and was stuck there. You've seen on the new what that city is like! She couldn't use her debit/credit card because they had phone problems and she didn't have a lot of cash with her. She was extremely upset and thought she wouldn't be able to get out of town because of all the freeways being flooded. The poor kid sounded like she was almost in hysterics. I told her to head west out of the city if she couldn't get north or east and then when she was out of the immediate area she should find an easterly route. I kind of walked her through just where she could/should try to go. So, she headed northwest up to Hwy 20 and took that to the east so she could connect back to Hwy 151 and cross the Mississippi with that. Once she was across the Mississippi and into Wisconsin, we were much more relaxed. We knew she could still get to some closed roads, but I am better able to get road closed info here. Luckily she didn't run into any. She called her mom about 10:30, saying she was in Madison and she got home about midnight. I haven't seen her yet because this morning she had to go visit the boyfriend, of course. I guess later she'll get around to grandma. As for me, I'm just happy that she got home safe and sound. That's a long way for a young girl to be going all alone.
The magic dust is for getting dgd back home again and hopefully will help to dry out the soggy mid-west part of the country.

Kaci, Just read your post and I can surely understand your concern about your DGD.
Kaci, I'm so glad Amanda made it home safely. What a scary thing for you all. When is she moving to your house? I hope you have the ground rules in writing. You are so generaous to take on this responsibility.
Many hugs,
I hope you have a calm and dry week.
Carol
There's no way she inherited any of her spunk from me because I've always been just the opposite.
I just heard tonight that Hwy 60 is closed in Hustisford.
I wish you a safe and dry journey if you go on your excursion and I hope you find that all of your family is okay.
Have a good Tuesday.
Carol
OMG Kaci.
