My poor body aches all over.  For the last two months I have been going to the gym 5 times a week to walk the treadmill and ride the bike.  Well, I had gotten to the point that I needed to add weights to my program.  I made an appointment for 10 AM today.

My instructor is a young man (32) who just had his first child.  Let me tell you ladies, he put a program together for me that will keep me in the weight room for a least 2 hours everyday.  My work-out chart looks like a puzzle chart.  I am on two upper shoulder machines, one upper arms, one biceps, one upper back, two lower back, two core (tummy), one bench press, one board press and that is not even the inner legs or outer legs or thighs.  I truly believe I have finally lost my mind.  I'm not even sure that I can do all of these exercises.  Right now my poor body just aches and I just got out of my soaking tub.  Maybe I should just sleep in the tub tonight, the only problem with that is the water would get cold and I would look like a prune in the morning.

I guess I just did not expect the machines to make me so tired.  I came home exhausted.  So I am off to the kitchen for a glass of milk and then bed.  If you have any ideas on using these machines, I would appreciate any suggestions.

Unless the guy has education in geriatric (don't laugh - it's 50s +)training, be very wary. I had a grad student in this design a program for me years ago that I could do at home. He was specializing in this area because the regular trainer curriculum was aimed at athletes in their 20s and just told older folks to use lighter weights, etc. Some upper body machines can tear up an aging shoulder in a hurry. Last winter I went for 3 months of physical therapy on my aging back. The therapist warned be about using weight machines on aging joints. It's very easy to tear tendons and pull muscles. Did the trainer give you the exercises which use the opposite movements? Muscles push or pull and need to be strengthened in both directions.

Lou thats to much all at once, 2hrs has he lost his cotten picken mind. I have been going for 5 years and I thought I had a good workout. Be careful with the leg press, you can tear your knee on that. I hope that your careful and slowly work into all that.

Lou I am very glad to read that you will not be lifting 90lbs with your knees, my dh is very active and could not lift that. Your rethinking and thats good, you don't want to make yourself not want to do it at all. Good job !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pam and Dave said that it was sure warm in Renton yesterday they had to put a ceiling fan in her office/den.

Work gently, hugs

WOW-- that is much too much! Actually, a good walking program and some weight lifting would most likely get you in fine shape for the trip. If you really want to do all that stuff go a bit slow. As you gain in strength, add more.

You really can hurt yourself if you think you can jump in and do what a 30 year old does. Take it slow and sready!Course, I'm much
