I got a call this morning from the cousin of my childhood friend, Madeline. Took me awhile to realize this was no social call.
My old friend passed away this morning in FL where she lived for the past 30 yrs, only 3 weeks after being diagnosed with cancer
Her cousin apologized..things were crazy, she had a hard time getting my number...I understood.
Madeline and I had known each other since third grade, growing up I spent a lot of time with her and her family. Through high school, into adulthood...we shared a lot...
after her move to FL i visted her there when we went down, saw her up here when she came to visit her family..most recently last year
Her cousin and I also go way back, she is also a Spanish teacher..we were together in Valencia, spain in 1969 when i studied at the Univ of Valencia
ahh..so sad...and I feel so helpless....but I sat down and wrote to her 2 daughters and each of her 4 sisters.
what can you do...?...sigh....
