Getting crabby - Me?

A HS friend of DHs will be visiting us for a day in August, along with 3rd wife we've never met. The guy is really pushing to sleep over at our house, insisting a couple of sleeping bags would be fine. I turned down their first request - our house is just not set up for overnight visitors (except for DGrKids). One extra bedroom has been turned into an a/v archive. The other is MY computer/hobby/exercise room. Plus, the more public bathroom houses the cat box and an old stained tub that drains slow - never use it. Having these folks stay over would involve more cleaning than my back with sciatic problem is up to and I know DH would never pitch in. The kicker is that they most likely have more $$ than we will ever know and can afford a hotel room. Oh - I'm also not a morning person and don't appreciate practically strangers seeing me in my nightie wandering around just trying to get alive. Am I just getting old and just unreasonable?? I will gladly serve some home cooked food so we can have plenty of time to reminisce, but I have my limits these days.

DH's first response was the one about house not being set up for overnight company. No go - still pushed. DH has now sent a response listing my back problems and that I'm no fun when I'm in pain. Whatever. They'll probably be expecting to see me a total wreck - LOL. Hope this settles it. If not, they may drive on by. At this stage, I've dug in my heels and won't back down.

Realistic - perfect description of dealing with the aging process. As I told a friend - I do almost everything I did at 30. But a lot s-l-o-w-e-r.

You mean a regular floor mop? I should try it. I bought a long handled cleaner with a pad on the end, but it is still a lot of twisting. The sciatica is a result of scoliosis of the back that curves front to back AND side to side. It's just gotten worse with age.

Not feeling guilty about seeming inhospitable now - thanks gals.

I couldn't agree more with not having over-night guests when you don't want them, Jacquie! There are times when I just plain don't even want to be around people at all. The older I get, the more I'm like that...???

"P.S. How about..."We can't accommodate over-night guests, but I'll make a reservation for you in a near-by motel if you want. What rate would be OK with you?" LOL! Good luck, Jacquie!

I totally agree with you, if you could see me when I finally get out of my jammie top. I bought a 16plus soft

Yep, family is fine. We do have one other buddy of DHs who is a good friend to both of us. He is retired, but his DW is not. He comes to our town periodically to see family AND he is a model RR fan, so our house is mecca to him. Because he also has cats, I never need to apologize about the cat box, etc., plus he really is happy with the blow up mattress and usually invites one of the cats to sleep with him. Feels just like home to him. We've known him so long I don't worry about how bad I look in the AM as long as I'm decent.

DH reports that the issue is settled and they are staying at a motel. From the way DH described my back problems, I'm sure they'll expect to see me shuffling around and on my last legs. Little do they know what all I do - when I FEEL like it. It will be great to have them for supper and even brunch the next day, then wave them on their way. I'm betting his DW will probably be grateful for the hotel room, as they will have been visiting relatives for some time.
