Glow in the dark Grannie

DDIL and I took the 5 & 7 yr old GrDolls to the beach today - their first time. Sounds odd, but when you live in the middle of corn country, there aren't many beaches around. This one is part of a recreation area 30 miles away which is built to cool a power plant. Of course, DH had to comment about me glowing in the dark after swimming there. Phooey - the water is used to cool the reactor and no waste is dumped. People fish there all the time and eat their catch with no issues. The beach was clean, but the water was a delight. First it was warm. Plus, the marker buoys had netting which kept out small fish and algae, so the girls didn't start squealing about the icky stuff. There weren't many people at the beach, but several boaters having fun. The girls just loved it and we will definitely get in a few more trips before the season closes. We checked out the concession stand/grill/bar and they have a full menu beginning with breakfast and going thru dusk. We had root beer floats - another summer memory for me. I grew up next to Lake Michigan so spent a lot of my time at the beach. We drove around to check out camping facilities and they are very nice - the girls are now going to bug DS about taking them there on the overnight he has been promising them. I'm going to take a couple of solo trips just for old times sake. Just me, a blanket, cooler and a good book to read. I love staying at the beach until the sun goes down. Now to figure out what to put on my red back so I can sleep tonight - LOL. It was cloudy, but we forgot the old warning about burning on a cloudy day.

Be patient with those older ones. Our first batch of DGrKids are 22 and 24 now. For a while we didn't see much of them. Now the DGrS (22)is finishing up a stint in the Army and thinks we are pretty cool, wants to go target shooting with us when he is home. The DGrD (24) is getting married this fall and asking for my advice and counsel. The wee ones are a bonus, but I must admit I was beat last evening. DH was dozing in front of the TV and I just tiptoed off to bed at 9 PM - we normally hit the rack between 10:30 and 11:00. I was asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow and could barely wake up to make a potty run. Weather is lovely once again, so I sat out in my new chaise lounge and read one of Shirley MacLanes's books. We have vinyl Adirondack chairs for the deck, but they require a cushion and I can't put my feet up. DH groused about the lounge "another piece of junk". I set him straight - I'm retired now and want to REALLY relax outside for long stretches of time, not just the old quick cuppa before heading to work, etc. This was on clearance, but I didn't even mention it. Hey - I worked long enough to enjoy a bit of the good life now, right?
