DH is always a surprise

DH has always said he hated driving and refused to travel very far. He didn't think there was any reason to go just to see something or someone. Of course, there was the exception if it was to go dancing, and now target shooting - LOL. I've been talking about taking the train to New Orleans in late Oct. While we were going down a country road in my Ford Focus wagon to the sportsman's club on Thursday, he blurted out "I think we should take this car and just drive to New Orleans. We could see a lot of places and not put up with the other people. I'll just shut down the business for 2 weeks and we'll get the kids to come take care of the cats."! I was speechless. Now, I must admit that I have been seeing to it that our short trips are very pleasant and interesting to him. Trying to show him how much fun retirement could be. I guess my strategy worked! I don't expect any cross-country trips, but will be grateful for whatever I get.

Yay! Jacquie, the trip to New Orleans will be so much fun...it's one of my favorite places. Fall is a season when I love to travel. DH & I haven't been any place since we went to Santa Fe a few years ago. That was one looooong drive, but fun. I think it's time for us, too. Hopefully, will be our next trip will be south. Congrats on your "strategy working"!

We haven't been to New Orleans since Katrina hit. We mostly enjoy riding the streetcars and the Natchez steam boat, plus just walking around the Quarter and Garden District. Our food tastes (and budget) don't lend themselves to the big name restaurants. We always ask the hotel staff where THEY go to eat. It's usually one of those "down the street and around the corner" hole in the wall with excellent home cooking. This trip will include the WWII museum.

Road trips are so much fun. I'll be looking forward to your feelings about NewOrleans. I was there years ago and had a great time. The house that my DD lived in at that time is all gone. I remember her telling us that right down the street the lake was up above them

That's great, Jacquie! I hope the trip works out great for both of you and that he is willing to take others with you in the future.

DH really likes driving trips, but I have yet to talk him into taking one of more than a few days. I would love for us to take off and drive across the country to see my sister in AZ. Maybe it will happen, given that he really hates to fly!
