Age Steals Our Happiness Glow

Ever wonder why that guy wrote that book, Women are from Venus, Men are from Mars, or is it Men are from Venus and Women are from Mars? Hmmmm, I'm not sure either, but according to a study done by the University of Cambridge in England and the University of Southern it doesn't really matter because what they say is "young women are happier than their male peers, but as time rolls by and they become less able to achieve lasting love and financial success, females end up the sadder sex."

The study found that women are happier earlier in life with marriage and finances, but then during middle age, men surpasses them.  Also, men are at there lowest during their 20's because of their financial marital status, but women are usually happiest.

As men age they reach many of their desired aspirations in their careers, family lives and financial lives, but women, well we feel less satisfied of the two.  In fact, we began to fade, and lose our glow.

So what gives?  Can men and women ever achieve a happy-medium and be happy and satisfied at the same time?  I think so, but how about you read the rest of this study and then give us your feed back.

I was told by a friend to read this book years ago--I didn't.

I am one to feel that happiness comes from within, and there are some people that will never be happy no matter what happens or what they read or what they do; whereas there are people that can turn a bad situation into good and be happy no matter what.

I didn't read the rest of the study because I am one that doesn't really care what statistics are telling me, all I know is that I am a happy person and still believes that happiness comes from the heart; we are of retirement age and have had a very happily married life of 52 years and 10 years of retirement, and time sure flies by when your having fun.

It was the reverse for us. DH had an education and career, I was a homemaker struggling to make ends meet. In mid-life I took on a full-time job that was very fulfilling and DH quit the job which gave him a heart attack at 40. I figure I got to do it all - had a man who loved me, had babies, volunteered in the community, worked at a job I enjoyed, had grandbabies (and GrGrans), relatively good health, then retired. DH has gotten more an more sour as the years go by about the chances he missed. He's just one of those people who sees himself as a victim and the glass is always 1/2 full. It wasn't in his makeup to enjoy the babies, a wife who loved him enough to work full-time so he could work at home without stress.
