Foggy and rainy day here today

We had an estimate to have a lower wall on the lower level water side redone over as it is starting to bulge and probably won't last too much longer.  Thanks to our neighbor that just sold the house next door as he illegally dug a dry well for his washing machine water to go into and it ran down the hill and through our rocks, and so now that he is gone, we told him before he left he better take that shut off valve that switched the outgoing water from the septic to the one he put in because if he doesn't we will report it to the board of health before he even has a chance to sell it.  Well, out it came, along with the illegal fireplace that he had and the potential buyers at the time picked up on that one.  Anyway, our first estimate was $40,000--yes, you read that right.  Now $4,000 would have been more in line but I know they have a hard time getting equipment in here.  Well, to make a long story short, a man was working on the wall across the street that had a big crumble during the winter, and DH went over to talk to him quite a few times, and this man was doing an absolutely beautiful job.  Unbelievable, as we all thought it couldn't be fixed.  So DH asked him to come over and look at ours and he did about 3 weeks ago and said "sometime" and it might be in the fall.

Well, yesterday he rang the doorbell and said the guy across the street ran out of money so he's not working there anymore right now and are we still interested.  So, he looked it over again, and we are going to have him do whatever he thinks is best.  But--the big shock, it sounds like under $1,000 from his quote, and it won't be made from scratch but he said it would hold for at least a good ten years, and actually I even wonder if we will have to worry about it anymore after that.  So, sometime today, on his own time he is going to start.  Wish us luck--however it turns out it just has to be better than the condition it is in now.  Or does it????  We'll see.

So, yesterday waited and he didn't show up, and it was a beautiful day, and today the weather isn't so good so don't think he will be here today either.  He's one of these guys that works the job professionally but picks up these side jobs, so guess we will have to be patient.  We know his father as his father was on the dept. in our city, so it really is a small world, isn't it?

Off for the day, will try to read.  Yesterday I tried to get on here and couldn't get on for the life of me.  I posted one post, and that was the end of that.  A good day to all, hugs.

Good luck with the wall fix, Bea! Better to do it now than when it's in a broken heap. I hate maintenance since my DH doesn't have anything to do with it & I have to do all of the calling, etc. It's going to be a hot day here, too, so I'm not going out until tonight when it will hopefully be cooler. I don't mind 75* as a high...if only I could control it;-) Cal
