Greetings Ladies,
I am Lottie's Eldersis and have been lurking on this board since '99, I feel sure that y'all caring ladies will be willing to help me with some information.
I have been referred to an orthopaedic surgeon who recommends left hip replacement. He says that my back is very bad. Surgery on that is not advised. I'm 77, diabetic, have used a cane for two years, and that left hip has me getting to the 7 or 8 on the pain scale.
Have any of you, your relatives, or friends had joint replacement? Can you tell me of experiences and/or results of the surgery. I'd like to know the good and the bad. I've been told of one lady who now has no pain, but limps around like a drunken sailor. Her operation was done this year.
My 1999 PC crashes regularly running windows '98, and my efforts to type take forever. You may not hear back from me right away, but if I get can "old creaky" to boot up, (the power button is broken and requires a nailfile, tweezers and patience) I will certainly read and appreciate your posts. Thanks.

Eldersis Ava

Hello
Hi Ava, it's so good to see you here.
Thanks "Yankee,"
I do creep around now, so a slower step wouldn't be an issue. I'm glad it has been successful for your mother.I have been told that the older one is, the slower the rehab and home assistance is needed for sometime. I hope she is doing well and able to do as we all wish, and that is to take care of ourselves.

Ava
Thanks for the referral.
Hi Bea,
Your answer is helpful for, as you see, I have heard of this problem before. I don't know if it might be better to have both hips done. I guess that could keep me at rehab and home for a long time. As things are now, the right leg works. I could drive
Hi my friend-- So many hips have been replaced around here that a plane with a large magnet would empty the place. The gal that went to Alaska with me had her hip replaced a year ago this month. She does not need a cane. Really, I haven't seen a bad hip replacement. Knees are harder that hips, shoulders hardest of all.
Anyhow- , just remember to do as you are told when it's over. You must do the exercises. Here one of the best exercises, after a month or two, is walking in the pool.Really, Most all the ladies I know that have had this replacement have done great-- you wouldn't know that they had the operation. That isn't to say that I wouldn't hate to have to face the operation ,but if I needed it I would do it
good to see you on here.
Dear Martha,
It is so good to have a word from you....you are so encouraging too! I thought that if you saw my request, you would probably know several ladies who have had this done. I have been hearing lots of negative stuff, though it is certain that, other than a miracle, this won't get any better by itself. I am going to contact the Dr. again, and try to see about doing it.
Boy would it ever be nice to have you come to FL. I wish I wasn't such a sissy in driving long distance. I've thought of driving up North and stopping on the way to see those that live in states I'd pass through. Sissy me is pushing herself just to drive to Ocala. Three hour drive.I'll let you know in Feb if I do it.
I leave here for PA on the 27th. I will miss this place even though being with my girls is wonderful.
About your operation, from what I hear the pain gets to a point where you are willing to have them operate or amputate. Really, as far as the hips go I can't recall but one man that had a problem. That was a faulty hip that got on the market and that
